| Spherical bearings are designed to manage high radial loads and perform consistently, even when misalignment, marginal lubrication, contamination, extreme speeds and critical application stresses are present. And through expertly designed critical dimensions such as roller and raceway diameters and contact geometry, Timken is improving its customers%u2019 performance by helping reduce downtime, extending maintenance cycles and most importantly, increasing productivity. |

Barrel roller bearings are single row, self-aligning roller bearings. They comprise solid outer rings with a concave raceway, solid inner rings with two ribs and a cylindrical or tapered bore and barrel rollers with cages. The bearings cannot be dismantled.
Barrel roller bearings are particularly suitable where high radial shock type loads occur and misalignments must be compensated, see Compensation of angular misalignments. Their axial load carrying capacity is small. |

NSK manufactures a complete range of spherical roller bearings from 25mm to 1.5m bore diameter with the option of parallel or tapered bores (for use with NSK adapter or withdrawal sleeves). Other sizes may also be available on request.
Spherical roller bearings can support high radial loads and moderate axial loads in either direction. They are also suitable for applications involving moderate shock or impact loads.
The inner ring guides two rows of barrel-shaped rollers, with a single spherical outer ring raceway. As such, these bearing can accommodate a varying degree of misalignment depending on their size, but normally between 0.018 and 0.045 radian (1 to 2.5 degrees) with average loads.
Different cage materials are available for these bearings including steel, brass or polyamide depending on the requirements of the application. These bearings are also available with an oil groove and holes in the outer ring for re-lubrication purposes.
In addition, NSK can provide a range of specially designed spherical roller bearings for vibrating machinery applications.

Spherical roller bearings are inherently self-aligning and very robust. The two rows of rollers make the bearings able to carry heavy loads. Invented by SKF and refined over the years, the present SKF range of spherical roller bearings includes a wide range of sizes of several ISO Dimension Series and also includes special designs, for example, for vibrating screens and similar applications. More recently a range of sealed spherical roller bearings has been added to the assortment. Split spherical roller bearings are usually based on the standard bearings but can be customized as required.

SNR has conducted joint research plans with its steel suppliers, focusing on steel quality evolution; now, the company uses special alloys featuring the utmost cleanliness level. This new steel quality, generalised on our spherical roller bearings, provides higher performance and endurance than the other steel grades used so far.
Furthermore, the heat treatment which is especially applied to the SNR spherical roller bearings guarantees dimensional stability up to 200 °C. The quality of this treatment results in higher endurance and higher ultimate strength and wear resistance of the bearings, allowing them to sustain the most aggressive operating conditions.
Therefore, the combined evolution of the materials and technologies gave rise to an 18 % increase in the dynamic load capacity of the SNR spherical roller bearings, as well as a 75 % service life extension, making our bearings the best performers on the market, while remaining within the same ISO standardisation envelope and in compliance with the ISO standard for basic dynamic load calculation.
Application examples: Rolling mill cages, large reduction gears, large industrial fans, printing press cylinders, quarry machines…

Spherical roller bearings are double row, self-retaining units comprising solid outer rings with a concave raceway, solid inner rings and barrel rollers with cages. The inner rings with cylindrical or tapered bores.
The symmetrical barrel rollers freely align themselves to the concave outer ring raceway. As a result, shaft deflections and mislignments of the bearing seats are compensated.
X-life
Many sizes of spherical roller bearings are supplied in X-life design. These bearings do not have a central rib on the inner ring so longer barrel rollers can be fitted; improved kinematics, optimised surfaces and even higher performance materials are possible. As a result, the bearings show a significant increase in the basic dynamic load rating and, under the same operating conditions, in the basic rating life. In certain applications, a smaller design of bearing arrangement can therefore be used if necessary. |

RKB spherical roller bearings are self-aligning and insensitive to the misalignment of the shaft.
RKB spherical roller bearings comprises open bearings, sealed (suffix 2CZ1) and bearings for vibratory applications (suffix ROVS).
RKB offers spherical roller bearings customized for specific applications as bearings with split outer ring (suffix WOR) or with increased width dimension and larger rollers for milling applications (project designation SRB) or for the support of the rolls of cold rolling Pilger mills for tubes.
Such bearings are provided with annular groove and lubrication holes in the outer and/or in the inner ring (suffix W33, W33X, W20, W26).
They are manufactured in different constructive internal design versions (e.g. CA, MB, MF, CC).
The bearings of normal design are fitted with machined brass or steel cage guided on the rollers or on the inner ring or outer ring raceway.
The radial clearance can be normal, larger than normal (suffix C3, C4, C5) or smaller than normal (suffix C2) in accordance with ISO 5753.
Some of RKB spherical roller bearings are also manufactured in the sealed version reinforced with steel sheet and made of an oil and wear resistant rubber.
In order to locate the spherical roller bearings with the tapered bore onto a cylindrical seating, the adapter (designation H) or withdrawal (designation AH) sleeves are the most commonly used components with large shafts with h9 and h10 tolerance.
For large sized bearings, both adapter and withdrawal sleeves are provided with oil grooves and oil duct at the threaded side to enable the oil injection method to be used for easy mounting and dismounting (designation OH and AOH). |

Invented by McGill engineers over 30 years ago, SPHERE-ROL bearings utilize a single row of spherical rollers which provide a wide variety of advantages.High capacities, high limiting speeds, longer life under more misalignment and protection from contaminants - All these features allow more design flexibility than typically possible with ordinary two-row designs.

Axial spherical roller bearings are single row, self-aligning roller bearings. They comprise solid shaft and housing washers and asymmetrical barrel rollers with cages. The cage holds the roller and cage assembly together with the shaft locating washer. The bearings can be dismantled. The parts of the bearings can be fitted separately.
Axial spherical roller bearings can support very high axial loads and permit relatively high speeds. Since the raceways are at an angle to the bearing axis, the bearings can also support radial loads. |
|
In RKB spherical roller thrust bearings the load is transmitted from one raceway to the other under an angle of about 50° related to the bearing axis.
They can take over heavy axial loads and simultaneously they can accommodate radial loads with values of up to 55% of the axial load magnitude.
An important feature of spherical roller thrust bearings is their self-aligning capability, thanks to the design of the housing and shaft washer raceways with a large number of asymmetrical rollers and the proper conformity with the paths.
RKB spherical thrust bearings have a machined brass cage guided by a sleeve clamped in the shaft washer bore (suffix EM). The shaft washer and the cage with rollers form a non-separable unit.
The overall dimensions of the spherical roller thrust bearings are in accordance with ISO 104/1979, so that they are interchangeable with different designs, even the earlier ones (suffix B).
Where the cage guiding sleeve also serves as a spacer sleeve, the spacer sleeve needed between the shaft washer and the shaft shoulder has to be checked and, if necessary, remachined when substituted with different bearing designs.
These RKB bearings as standard are manufactured to normal tolerance class as specified in ISO 199/1997. However the tolerance for the total height is tighter than that specified by ISO. |
