Ultrasound level sensor SIMATIC PXS
Recording of fill levels from a distance of 3 cm to 10 m
Our sonar proximity switches sense objects of varying materials, shapes, colors or consistencies with absolute precision, flexibility and reliability.
The ultrasound level sensor is proper for level applications in containers due to its design and its technical constructions. The devices feature two switching outputs to which different distances can be assigned. This allows, for example, the minimum and maximum fill level in a tank to be evaluated. Regardless whether the objects are liquid, solid, powdery or even transparent.

Short ultrasonic pulses between 10 kHz and 70 kHz are emitted by the transducer. These pulses are reflected by the product surface and received again by the transducer. They spread with sound velocity and the time from emission to receipt of the signals is proportional to the level in the vessel.
Latest microprocessor technology and proven ECHOFOX® software select the level echo from a number of false reflections and measure it exactly.
Just by entering the vessel dimensions, a level-proportional signal can be displayed. An adjustment with emptied and filled vessel is no longer necessary!
Thanks to different emitting frequencies, levels can be detected in a measuring range between 4 m and 70 m. Optional swivelling holders enable an ideal positioning of the sensors in the solid area.
Fluctuations of the product compositions or complete product changes do not influence the measurement results. A new adjustment is not necessary.
Advantages
- Non-contact
- Independent of product characteristics
Applications
- Level measurement of solids and liquids
- Good chemical resistance

SolidAT provides practical cost effective solutions for wide area monitoring of assets based on our range of level meters. We focus on management of remote fuel tanks, water reservoirs, sewage flow, river level states and similar assets.
Providers of remote monitoring systems usually concentrate on communication links and control center software. These providers sometimes neglect the physical measurement aspect, which in many cases determines the quality of the complete solution. In contrast, SolidAT leverages its core expertise in level measurement to expand its offering for wireless monitoring. In our solutions, we exploit existing communication infrastructures such as cellular networks (GSM) and we propose simple-to-use local software packages for management.

The Acu-Trac® Smart 485 Level Transducer is an economical level sensing solution for storage containers with depths up to 1.9 meters (76 inches) for gasoline and 2.5 meters (98 inches) for other media.
The Acu-trac® Smart 485 monitors and processes liquid levels in real time. There are two message formats available on the RS-485 bus.
The Smart 485 family is chemically compatible with a wide variety of liquids - gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, urea (Adblue), water, wastewater, ethanol, hydraulic fluid, and engine coolants. It was designed for non-contact liquid level or industrial process control applications to 85°C. The Smart 485 can be used in general industrial, heavy duty vehicle, diesel engine generators, and mining, agriculture, water and waste water markets.
The Smart 485 was designed to allow the user maximum flexibility with its user programmable features. Accurate level volume measurements are dependant on the shape and dimensions of your tank. The Smart 485 is programmable to allow for non-linear flexible tank profiling.
Other user programmable selections enable the Smart 485 to be configured for a wide variety of response times, sensing ranges and full and empty limits. The digital filtering can be used to eliminate errors due to fluids sloshing in mobile tanks. The gauge drive output can be used to specify full and empty endpoints that best suit your application needs.
The Smart 485 meets NEMA4 standards and has three different electrical outputs choices to best meet your application need - 4-20mA; ratiometric voltage (0.5 – 9.0V); and non-ratiometric voltage (0.5 – 9.5 V).

Two small ultrasonic sensors are clamped or bonded to the outside walls of the vessel - one on the bottom of the vessel and the other on the side, to compensate for variations in density. Signals from the transducers are fed into the processor and either displayed locally if that option is selected or output to a separate system. One processor is required per two vessels. The system calculates the height and volume of the liquid in the tank from the time taken for the signal to be received from the liquid surface.

SSI Technologies Inc. offers two families of ultrasonic liquid level sensors - Fluid-Trac® and Acu-Trac®.
More accurate than resistive float senders, reed-switch tube sensors, or capacitive tube senders. Accuracy of level volume measurements is dependant on the tank shape and irregularities.
Fluid-Trac® and Acu-Trac® liquid level sensors are programmable to allow for non-linear flexible tank profiling. Tank irregularities are handled by our software using tank strapping profiles. Digital filtering helps eliminates errors due to liquids sloshing in mobile tanks.
More reliable - no moving parts. Resistive float senders have a wiper that slides across a resistive strip that with time can wear out and cause intermittent or complete loss of the signal.
Mounts to the same opening as the resistive float sender but does not protrude into the tank. Chemically compatible with many liquids such as gasoline, ethanol, diesel fuel, oils, engine coolants, fresh water, waste water, urea (AdBlue).

These self-contained Ultrasonic Sensors provide level control of both liquid and bulk materials. This gives the user a viable alternative to bubblers, floats, capacitance probes, and pressure transmitters.
With sensing ranges of 30 and 40 feet respectively many tanks are within reach. Their incorporation of a microprocessor design makes it possible to achieve signal conditioning. This gives the sensor the ability to process the return ultrasonic echo and distinguish between false targets and real targets.
With the incorporation of a microcontroller into the design of the RPS-3000PVC and RPS-4000 many of the common problems facing long range sensing applications have been overcome. Software was then written to optimize the performance characteristics of the sensors. The artificial intelligence analyzes and conditions the return ultrasonic echo. This process filters out any false echoes and electrical noise. An additional task that the microcontroller does is temperature compensation.
The following is a brief list of features for the RPS-3000PVC and RPS-4000.
SIMPLE CALIBRATION: The sensing window can be adjusted by using one of three easy methods. NOTE: When the sensors are powered up and the control lines not used, they are factory preset to maximum range.

Pulsar's innovative dB range of transducers has taken ultrasonic level measurement into a new era. Unlike the high voltage, frequency dependent transducers of other manufacturers, which require special, protected interconnect cables, or low powered transducers built with intrinsic safety rather than performance in mind, the dB series combines low electrical power that meets intrinsic safety requirements with extraordinary high sonic power to give range and performance.

Our famous patented array wheel probe is the result of many years of research and careful design, in consultancy with our RapidScan2 customers in the aerospace market. It features a wide conformable rubber tyre which is acoustically matched to water, providing low loss coupling into the test part for high quality results without the need for gel or large quantities of water. It is ideally suited to hand scanning of large flat or slightly curved parts, covering large areas quickly and efficiently. A central spring loaded roller ensures consistent coupling pressure across the sensor even when scanning narrow parts. Incorporating a 64 element phased array with 0.8mm resolution, and a high resolution position encoder, the Array Wheel Probe provides high quality, high resolution data. Various sizes of wheel and levels of array are available and can now also be used with many instruments on the market.
