What is Particle Image Velocimetry
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a non-intrusive laser optical measurement technique for research and diagnostics into flow, turbulence, microfluidics, spray atomisation and combustion processes.
Application areas for PIV include:
Wind tunnel velocity experiments for testing aerodynamics of e.g. cars, train, aircrafts, buildings and other objects/structures.
Velocity measurements in water flows (e.g. research in general hydrodynamics, ship hull design, rotating machinery, pipe flows, channel flow etc.).
Spray research where there is a need to measure droplet velocities, cone angles, penetration length etc.
Environmental research (combustion research, wave dynamics, coastal engineering, tidal modelling, river hydrology etc.).

Measurements of diameters without contact. The haloes present in a Petri dish can be sized with this device only by pushing the reset button in one edge of the spot and moving the holder to the opposite edge of the halo. The display shows the diameter with an accuracy of 0.1 mm.

The DTS 500 positioning system complements the operation of Instrument Systems spectrometers by providing a route to full automation of measurements. The positioning system is in particular suitable for determining viewing angle dependent properties and spatial homogeneity of display, panel graphics and LED lamp modules. The DTS 500 saves valuable time by eliminating manual alignment and guarantees more exact results with improved reproducibility. Operation of the entire 5-axis system is fully integrated into the SpecWin Pro software. Measurement results can be viewed as luminance and contrast distributions in Cartesian or spherical coordinates with ISO contours lines. Data can additionally be exported in table format to Excel.
The DTS 500 is available in various configurations:
- stand alone XYZ positioning system (e.g. for testing back-lit display and control elements for the automotive and aviation industries)
- stand alone 2-axis goniometer (e.g. for measuring the spatial radiation pattern of lamp modules)
- complete 5-axis system mounted on an optical bench (e.g. for testing LCD displays and entire instrument clusters)

The QPM Family
Gentec-EO’s QPM Series is a fully automatic laser power probe that calculates laser power by measuring temperature dynamics using a microprocessor. Its measurement and acquisition technique determines the time needed to carry out a measurement. Data acquisition is triggered and stopped by detecting set heat parameter thresholds. This technique is virtually error free and allows for multiple measurements without absorber forced cooling.
Power Range
Six models cover the full-scale powers from 500 mW to 10 kW. Their innovative measurement concept cuts the time to measure and display down to ten seconds on all probe models providing:

Our integrated, broadband power meter uses thermopile technology, has a flat response from 200 nm to 20 µm, and can measure output power from 10 µW to 2 W. The OMM-6810B is the only power meter capable of measuring the optical power and wavelength of semiconductor lasers including short wavelength lasers, high power pumps, and fiber lasers. A variety of measurement heads cover wavelength ranges from 350 to 1700nm for power only or power and wavelength measurement.
In addition to precision power and wavelength measurements, the OMM-6810B is loaded with standard features such as log/linear display modes, auto ranging, user calibration, and reference measurement capability. All of these features plus an analog output and IEEE-standard GPIB interface combine to make this instrument a cost-effective laser diode development or production test tool.

OAI's Model 306 UV Power Meter is a highly reliable direct reading Instrument designed expressly for measuring light intensity at the wafer plane of mask aligners, UV curing light sources, and any other UV light source. Special probes enable measurement of light in the visible range. Calibration accuracy is within +/- 3% and is NIST traceable. Measurement repeatability is within /- 1%. It is auto ranging from 0.1 to 1999 mw/cm2 full scale and has 1% linearity in this range. This instrument features meter to meter matchability.
