SSI's overhead trolleys are simple, yet offer a comprehensive capability that can profitably be applied to precisely and accurately moving a wide variety of materials. 3", 4", or 6" trolley systems are available with a wide selection of versatile components and accessories. Installations that follow almost any required horizontal or vertical direction or turn are possible because of the conveyor's exceptional flexibility.
The SSI Overhead reduces the manual handling of materials, while simultaneously increasing speed and accuracy. Costly losses due to damage and negligence are considerably decreased. The conveyor can also furnish the convenient storage of parts until needed for processing by elevating them to the ceiling or between roof trusses. SSI's overhead conveyors maximize square footage by utilizing a plant's overhead space to free up floor space for other operations.
With its chain and trolleys properly shielded, the SSI Overhead Conveyor can participate in and be used for transporting materials through operations such as metal cleaning, painting, dipping, chemical processing, sand blasting, oven drying, etc. Many operations of this kind can not be done manually without hazard to the operator.
The SSI Overhead can be combined with other types of conveyors to provide maximum efficiencies in automatic conveying and assembly systems. It can maintain a constant supply of parts to processing or assembly points, reduce stock room requirements, help keep inventories to a minimum, and remove accident hazards by keeping work areas clear.

This type of conveyor separates the function support from the load of the function drive. A load can thus be uncoupled from the chain, deviated in a switch, then taken again by a secondary chain; in the same way, it's possible to accumulate loads without pressure by disconnecting them (a thrust disconnects the first carriage which itself by its presence disconnects the second). The Power+Free systems make it possible to solve complex problems of handling.

The special Hero-rail elements enable variable arrangement of the line, to turn the conveying direction in horizontal and also in vertical way, up to running straight vertical. The vehicles generally carry a special designed hanger matching the load requirements. The track segments are usually supported by special designed steel structure hanging at roof construction or standing on floor.
We basically divert into Power Rail that is to take up the chain trolleys and the Free Rail that is to take up the load trolley. Both, the Power and the Free-rail, is connected via special sheets.
The Power-chain is attached with chain dogs (in pitch). These chain dogs catch the trolley dogs of the free-trolleys and so the free trolley will start to move. In Stop stations the free-trolley dogs can be pushed down so unlink the free trolley from the chain-dog. In this way the free-trolley can be stopped while the chain is still moving. The same method is also used to queue trolleys behind each other along a - generally - straight track segment.

Customized solutions for a quick and trouble-free transfer of empty PET containers of any shape and size from the blow molder to the filler.
Modular and ergonomic design
SMI air conveyors feature a modular design and a great operational flexibility, also thanks to the use of frequency converters (inverters) which optimize the conveyors speed. Furthermore, the stainless steel AISI 304 frame (1) makes the maintenance and cleaning operations easier. It is also possible to adjust the air distribution system according to the type of bottle, by means of manual valves or through the electronic control of the motors speed.
Low maintenance and operating costs
The product guides (2) are made of stainless steel and plastic UHMW antifriction material, whereas the guides controlling the bottles trajectory (3) consist of non-abrasive, plastic brushes (4), with the following advantages:
- they preserve the container quality
- they grant the correct side position of every kind of bottle
- they reduce the changeover times
- they reduce the wear levels and the maintenance operations
- they offer great advantages from the economical point of view (minimized operational costs)

Posimat has developed and patented (US Pat. No. 6033156) an air conveyor where the bottle rings slide between a total of 4 guides, two each side of the ring and, in which, the air jet moving the bottles also comes from between said guides or from the side walls (depending on the application).

By installing the system at high level the floor remains free for other activities. The product can be lowered either by vertical rises and falls in the conveyor track or by drop sections. Railtechniek offers several types of P & F systems, light duty for small products up to 50 kg's, medium duty for products up to 500 Kg and heavy duty for products up to 8000 kg's.
The product has a long and substantial track record originating in the 1950's but continuously being developed utilizing modern manufacturing techniques, materials and control systems.
The control system, which is an integral part of any power and free system, ensures a reliable installation, and can work in combination with a mechanical code system, bar-code or RF chip mounted on the flight bar. The system controls are developed, assembled, installed and programmed on a project-by-project basis by our own in house control engineers. All such control systems, are supplied as standard with modem links to our factory to allow us to provide optimum support on a 24-hour basis.

Power and free conveyors are a special adaptation of the overhead trolley conveyor and the free line conveyor. The carrier may be routed automatically through switches to many different spur lines and other power and free conveyors.
The applications for power and free conveyors include warehouse distribution centers, automotive plants, steel mills, foundries, appliance manufacturers, boat builders, and copper tube mills.
Southern Systems manufactures various power and free conveyors, handling live loads from 25 lbs. to 20,000 lbs. The systems vary from a light-duty enclosed track design to 6" ship channel for the free rails.
While much of the power and free system is standardized, each power and free conveyor is engineered for a particular application. In virtually all instances power and free is installed on a turn-key basis to assure proper functioning of the design concepts. The entire SSI organization is committed to building the most efficient power and free conveyor systems in the industry.
