pH measurement is usually done with the use of a combination electrode. The combination electrode is an electrode system formed by a glass sensing half-cell and an internal reference half-cell. As the reference junction acts as the medium of conductor between the reference electrolyte and the sample to be measured, it must allow free movement of electrons through the junction and into the sample.
A potential develops on the membrane surface when a pH electrode comes into contact with a sample and its value varies with the pH of the sample. This variation in potential is measured in mV by a meter and is converted to direct pH values.

Stable reference systems are the heart of reliably functioning, long-lasting electrodes. In pH measurement up till now, the user was not spared the need for frequent calibration. The reason for this lies in shifting reference potentials due to chloride loss in the reference electrolyte. However, contaminated and partially clogged diaphragms also contribute considerably to changing properties in pH electrodes, which can only be resolved with a fresh calibration. For pH measurements where a very high degree of accuracy is required, it should therefore be sufficient if the pH sensor is calibrated just before measuring. But in industrial applications - especially in the case of online pH measurement - this is possible only with a great deal of effort, if at all. What is even worse: even if a calibration with certified pH buffers is correctly carried out, the very next measurement will not necessarily be accurate! Depending on the age of the electrode or, more precisely, the state of the diaphragm and the chloride content in the reference electrolyte, different diffusion potentials may occur in buffers and measurement medium. Technically speaking, it is impossible to eliminate this source of error entirely, but with pHeasy technology it is possible to detect it online!
Hamilton, with its pH glasses and the ingenious inner buffer, has built true long term stability into pHeasy electrodes.

Either in environmental related gas analysis like stack testing, continuous emission monitoring (CEM), vehicle emission testing or LEL warning indication and in process applications like combustion efficiency monitoring, boiler trim, ethylene plants or petro chemistry, sample gas needs to be extracted from the gas stream.
It is obvious, that for a reliable analysis the sample gas must be extracted free of ambient gas leaking into the system and at the same time the dew point of the sample must remain stable.
This explains why the sample gas probe is the important interface between the process and the analyser system.
Quality, reliability and low operation cost have been the main targets for the development of this programme. The results are outstanding: the modular design allows application specific combinations in a very price effective manner.
The GAS 222 series of sample probes provides "down to earth" solutions based on advanced modular designs.Depending on the application, a variaty of heated or unheated basis units can be combined with in-situ or downstream filters. The filter material can be chosen from sintered ceramic to sintered stainless steel or even pleated stainless steel. Filters with large surfaces provide long life time. For the in-situ filters a highly efficient blowback system is available at reasonable cost.
Bühler sample gas probes are the best solutions if cost effective installation and low operational cost are a concern!

The Clif Mock sample probe was the first truly isokinetic sampler available for crude oil sampling and is still the most accurate and reliable method for extracting a sample from a pipeline for BS & W analysis. Designed to be used with C-22 Isokinetic Samplers, the CD20 drive units are available in four configurations and are capable of pulse counting, timing, pacing from computer and sending out a "loss-of-signal" alarm. In the last few years, there has been increasing demand for much more elaborate systems. These CLIF MOCK True Cut systems commonly have multiple receptacles for separate products or batching operations and have controllers, which interface with central computer systems.

The gas sample probes are used for continuous extraction of gases from dust loaden, high temperature or humid processes for the gas analysis.
Unheated, heated, explosion proof and portable versions are available.
Due to its modular design the gas sample probes can be adapted to nearly all process conditions.
