A majority of the variable piston pumps on the
market were designed decades ago, and very
few modifications have been made since then.
When Parker Hannifin decided to develop a new line of
variable piston pumps for the mobile market, it was
obvious to us that we needed to listen to and understand
our markets. We needed to get our hands around the
latest requirements and move the development forward.
Instead of starting the design work at the drawing board,
we went out to our customers and asked them what
characteristics they required from a new pump. Very
soon, the most important requirements became obvious.
OEM’s were looking for pumps that were easy and
inexpensive to install, had a low noise level, lasted a long
time, had a high self-priming speed and were equipped
to handle future pump controls.
With this in mind, our product team went to work on
perfecting our new line of pumps. The result: the new
Variable Piston Pump Series P2/P3.

The variable volume and pressure compensated design simplifies circuit design, and reduces heat buildup and noise. Four pump control options permit the designer to choose the most efficient means to power his hydraulic equipment. Choices include the standard pressure compensator control, remote pressure control, load sensing control, and horsepower limiting control.
Brass piston slippers pivot and rotate to equalize wear while a fluid passage through the slipper reduces loading and provides lubrication for the piston shoe and wear plate. Hardened swash plate and trunnion pins provide rugged support for the piston block and associated rotating group components.
Efficiently designed porting reduces noise at all pressure and flow levels for quiet, efficient operation that eliminates the need for noise shrouds. The rugged, cast iron body is thicker at stress points which contributes to quiet operation.

Recommended Fluids:
Petroleum based fluids are recommended. Fluids should be designated by the fluid manufacturer for use in hydraulic systems. Fluids should contain inhibitors to prevent rust and oxidation and should contain anti-wear, anti-foam, and deaerating agents. For other fluid types, please contact your Continental Hydraulics representative.

Petroleum based fluids:
Optimum - 140 sus (30 Cst.)
Continuous Minimum - 60 sus (10 Cst.)
Continuous Maximum - 750 sus (160 Cst.)

Fluid Cleanliness - ISO 18-16-13 is recommended
Operating Temperature - Operating temperature is determined by the viscosity characteristics of the fluid used. Control operating temperature as needed to assure that fluid viscosity is within acceptable limits. Because high temperatures degrade seals, reduce the service life of the fluid, and create scalding hazards, fluid temperatures should not exceed 180° F. (82° C.) at the case drain.
Mounting Position - Unrestricted. However, horizontal mounting is preferred.
Relief valves are recommended for all applications to help protect personnel and the system from potentially damaging overloads

Dual pump high flow high pressure pump unit type BMS
Whenever high flow and high pressure is required, the Resato BMS will provide it. Quick testing or testing of large objects is possible with an optional high flow low pressure air driven pump. This additional pump can be a single- or double acting one.
The Resato mobile pump unit is a self-contained air-driven unit of proven design. Not only can it be used to pressurize valves, fittings, hoses, piping, vessels and wellhead equipment, but is also suitable for supply of hydraulic power to operating cylinders, presses, rams, jacks, bolt tensioners and actuators.
All components, including the necessary connecting materials and tubing are built together in a stainless steel frame complete with stainless steel tank or direct water feed connection. The Resato Portable Power pack is manufactured according to European regulations and will be delivered including:

Plungers are fastened to yokes by means of a patented spherically seated self-aligning connection. This connection permits the plungers to run free through the packing and align themselves with the stuffing box.
Individual Stuffing Box Assemblies are designed to accommodate a variety of packing styles as well as lubrication and flushing methods. The design provides easy accessibility for disassembly and assembly, resulting in reduced maintenance costs and downtime.

High compression ratio for a steader flow and better efficiency
In Ragazzini pumps the piston stroke is longer than the diameter of the cylinder; this results in a high compression ratio and therefore an higher flow rate with a smaller number of revolutions. It is a pump with slower movements but a longer piston stroke. The whole mechanical part is thus improved, but in particular you obtain a more constant and compact flow, a greater self-priming capacity.
More efficient compensation to avoid any vibration and wear in the pipes
In Ragazzini pumps the dampeners have the shape and size that is most suitable for an uniform distribution of the high working pressure. They are placed directly on top of the suction and delivery pipes. In Ragazzini pumps the phenomenon generated by alternated pressures is already limited, but such an high compensation, so close to the pipes where the pressure is discharged, totally is eliminated.
More linear thrust to avoid mechanical wear and energy losses
The “sector” movement driven by a double support, common to all Ragazzini models, allows for the perfect alignment of the piston, thus providing the linear thrust necessary for the correct functioning of the piston gaskets and of the seals with Teflon gland rings.
