PHG840(M850-37) - Prepreg materials for railway parts
Components for rail interiors include items like ceilings, floorings, bulkheads, vestibules, fire barriers, interior wall panels, window surrounds, doors, staircases, and luggage bins or racks.
Phenolics are progressively finding their way into railway interior applications to meet increasing and ever more stringent fire, smoke, and toxic fume requirements that most nations apply to passenger railway vehicles operating within their borders.
For further weight reduction, traditional monolithic laminates are replaced more and more with lightweight sandwich constructions with prepreg and honeycomb or foam core.
-Gurit PHG840 rail interior prepregs are a perfect choice to meet today’s railway cost and performance targets:
- Fulfilment of Italian, Spanish, British, French and German rail fire regulation.
- Flexible, autoclave-free processing.
- Fast curing-cycle.
- Very good surface finish.
- White colour after cure for superior cosmetics.

SE 70 - Low Temperature Cure High Toughness Epoxy Prepreg System
- Low temperature 70°C curing
- Faster cycle times at elevated temperature
- Excellent balance of mechanical properties and toughness
- Long outlife - up to 4 weeks @ 18-22°C
- Range of compatible adhesive films and ancillary products
- Excellent surface finish
- Good Tg
- Suitable for vacuum bag, press or autoclave consolidation
SP’s SE 70 is a hot melt, low temperature cure, epoxy prepreg system. It has been developed for use in the construction of large components using low energy cure cycles. Excellent properties can be achieved with a processing temperature of just 70°C. At this cure temperature the system exhibits very good mechanical properties and excellent toughness.
Cure temperature for a 16 hours cure cycle is 70°C - this temperature allows less expensive tooling and ovens to be used, with lower thermal movement and distortion. Faster cures are available from higher cure temperatures. However, thicker sections (>10mm) will require the insertion of a suitable dwell into the cure cycle. Up to 20mm thick laminates may be moulded at 70°C with a peak exotherm only slightly above the cure temperature.

Prepregs – "PRE-imPREGnated sheet materials" are fibrous materials impregnated with reactive resin materials. Prepregs are the ideal starting material for lightweight yet high-strength constructional parts thanks to the diverse ways of processing these further.
Characteristically, the prepreg resins are in the still very reactive B stage, are of medium to high viscosity and can thus be processed without any problems by supplying energy and moulding to shape at the same time. The low-molecular and still fusible resins are transformed here to a high-molecular non-fusible C state. The KREMPEL prepreg systems are based on multifunctional, specially modified epoxy resins and a curing which although latent at room temperature, is a highly reactive system at higher temperatures. Structural components having very good mechanical properties can be fabricated with glass, carbon and aramide fibres.
This is a controlled process and we can adjust the resin system exactly to the conditions required for further processing.

Corecell M-Foam – The Marine Foam
• Replacement for PVC cores
• High shear strength combined with low density
• High temperature processing (prepreg compatible)
• High elongation for toughness
• Suitable for all composite processes including prepreg
Corecell M-Foam is the newest addition to the Corecell range and shares the benefits of SAN chemistry common to all Corecell products.
Corecell M-Foam has been developed to deliver one product for all Marine applications. It provides a unique combination of high shear strength with low density, high elongation, high temperature resistance and low resin uptake. M-Foam is the performance leader whether your application is slamming area or superstructure, hull or deck, using hand lamination, infusion or prepreg.
Corecell M-Foam delivers reliable processing through the benefits recognized in all Corecell products of fine cell size and unique knife-cuts giving low resin uptake in infusion processes. For prepreg, M-Foam offers high temperature resistance to allow shorter cure cycles and the confidence to process without fear of inhibition of prepreg catalysis. Where static properties are important, M-Foam delivers market-leading shear strength at a lower density. Where dynamic performance is crucial, the high elongation delivers higher useful properties and the toughness to give impact resistance and superior fatigue performance,
Corecell M-Foam is available in resin infusion format and is compatible with polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems.
