Whenever it is necessary to dissipate power peaks within an electromechanical process in a hot environment, braking resistors come into their own. In certain cases, braking resistors absorb the energy of a motor drive, thereby braking the motor. Each and every resistor designed by JOVYATLAS is suitable for use as a braking resistor.

For highly varied applications JOVYATLAS offers the following load banks:
1. SMART LOAD: This type series, with a power spectrum of 5 to 15 kW, has been specially developed for mobile use.
2. Mobile Loadbank ML 500: This mobile load bank was conceived as a result of continuous dialogue with our customers about their wishes. The ML 500 allows load tests and examinations wherever they are required. The built-in three-phase load system for power up to 500kW consists of steel-grid resistors.
3. Load banks up to 1 MW: JOVYATLAS has designed a range of load banks with a power spectrum 100-1000 kW. The PLM-series load resistor is adjustable to a resolution of 1kW by utilising a control box. Thanks to the use of special high-grade steels the load steps have a very low temperature coefficient, so that the adjusted load stays almost constant even if the resistor elements increase in temperature.
4. Load container CONPower up to 7.2 MW: Particularly for diesel engine and generator testing, the demand for high-performance load banks has risen sharply. Therefore JOVYATLAS has adapted developed the "CONPower" load range bank. This product line consists of standard commercial steel sea containers in which the load unit and the whole control unit are configured for controlling the load bank.

JOVYATLAS resistors for railway application are developed for the high load sector and designed to suit the individual requirements of the stretch of line concerned. All resistors for railway application are assembled using selected stainless steels and ceramic spacers. For stability, resistor bands are spot welded with aerodynamics in mind in a meander form and physically positioned in sequence so that they maintain their shape. A special design ensures that the bands are held securely and able to be grouped together in modules.

The Harmonic Filter resistors are used to eliminate the dangerous distortions (harmonics) generated inside the network due to connection of more and more number of electronic power converters.
The main problems caused by harmonics, that are sinusoidal currents with different frequencies and amplitudes compared with the rated 50/60 Hz network currents, are :
- increment of losses on the line
- malfunctioning of the test equipments
- interferences with radio and phone systems
- resonances
- high currents at neutral point
These resistors , used together with reactors and capacitors, help to reduce and filter the harmonics.

The NEUTRAL GROUNDING RESISTORS are generally employed in the LV and MV distribution networks to protect power transformers and generators from damaging currents in the event of earth fault.
This protection system represents the best choice in terms of fast response to localize the fault and consequently to reduce and prevent the overheating and mechanical stress on the conductors.
By inserting the N.G.R with appropriate characteristics between the neutral point of the transformer and the ground it is possible to limit the ground fault current for a short time to allow a quick localization of the fault but, at the same time, it does not damage the equipments.

Multi-Function Ground Resistance Testers
The AEMC® Multi-Function Ground Resistance Tester performs grounding resistance, earth coupling measurement, soil resistivity and bonding tests. This direct reading tester measures from 0.01 to 99,000Ω, and is auto-ranging, automatically seeking out the optimum measurement range test current and test frequency.

Hubbell Type SSR Power resistors from 1.3 amps through 101 amps are available, from unassembled to completely assembled in frames with covers. Standard assemblies are pre-engineered for primary or secondary resistance, and are used in typical applications such as motor starting or dynamic braking. Construction elements are stainless steel around a porcelain insulator, manufactured for endurance and reliability.
Heavy duty Types K1 and HHC resistors also utilize continuous stainless steel elements, with no weld joints where hot spots could develop. These resistors are available in ranges from 38 amps to 695 amps.
Hubbell Neutral Grounding Resistors limit the maximum fault current to a value which will not damage equipment, yet allow sufficient fault current for protective relays to clear the fault, conforming to IEEE Standard 32-1972
