BEI Duncan Encoders offer an excellent choice of Modular, Kit and Enclosed Shaft Encoder designs ideally suited for a wide variety of applications and the latest new product in Opto-ASIC Miniature Frameless Caliper Encoder, the MOD700 (shown above).
Our phased-array ASIC technology allows for the widest air gap in the industry, with an approximate 0.030" air gap vs. other masked technology processes requiring air gaps of 0.003-0.005". This enables most Duncan encoders to be very tolerant, enabling them to be installed easily without tight tolerance constraints. Resolution ranges are available up to 2540 ppr. Commutation is also available.

| Incremental encoders have output signals that repeat over the full range of motion. When the incremental encoder is turned on, the position of an incremental encoder is not known since the output signals are not unique to any singular position. |

The electronic turn-counting technology used in the new absolute encoders POSI+ makes them very compact: in diameter 58 mm, their length is of only 45 mm. It allows also to design hollow-through shaft encoder, turn counting capabilities up to 16 bits and very high rotation speed. The max. resolution per turn is 524288 positions (19 bits).
Available in SSI and BISS interfaces, the resolution, the codes, high and low range, parity, rest to zero or other value could be programmed. Incremental signals and information about rotation speed and temperature are available.
A SSI to parallel converter built-in a DB37 connector provides parallel interface in the cabinet thus significantly reducing the wiring cost if parallel output is required.
The POSI+ encoders are available with solid shaft of 6 and 10 mm and hollow through shaft of up to 14 mm. Their excellent electro-magnetic protection allows the use in environment with high noise level. |

There are two types of rotary encoders: absolute and incremental. Absolute rotary encoders provide a coded angle information and avoid time consuming reference measurements and calculation routines in the controller. Incremental rotary encoders provide a pulse output signal and enable counters and PLC to calculate the position, speed and distance.

Measurement Specialties develops innovative custom packaged solutions for rotary sensing applications using magnetic sensing technology. An encoder is a sensing device that translates either linear or rotary motion into a predictable electrical output. Magnetic encoder technology has shown to be superior to existing optical encoder technology in areas of temperature range, contamination resistance, operational life, shock and vibration, critical assembly operations and in many cases, cost. Two main encoder applications are panels (for user inputs) and feedback (for OEM – PCB assemblies and packaged encoders). Common uses include vending machines, equipment controls, flow meters and medical devices.

Absolute coders MT
The multi-turn absolute coders seize the mechanical movement of rotation of a drive on several revolutions.
Absolute coders ST
The absolute coder ST delivers for each angular position a value of coded position single. The value of absolute position is available as of the interlocking of the system. For this reason, a race of reference during the interlocking of the system is superfluous.
|
|
The incremental coder is planned for demanding applications relating to the detection of angles, direction of rotation and speeds. He delivers a signal whose values are in relative connection with the position of reference zero.

DS-90 Rotary, Sine/Cosine Absolute,
Electric Encoder
The DS-90 is a member of the DS series, which is based on Netzer Precision Electric Encoder technology. This, state-of-the-art, technology offers many features, some unparalleled:
- Lowest profile (? 10 mm)
- High precision, absolute position output
- High tolerance to temperature, shock and moisture
- Tolerance to EMI, RFI, and to magnetic fields
- Very low weight
The holistic (1) structure of the Electric Encoder provides generous mounting tolerance, thus obviating the need for internal ball bearings. The absence of bearings, flexible couplers, glass disc, light sources and detectors, along with very low power consumption, make the DS-90 encoder virtually failure free.
The internally shielded, DC operated DS-90 includes an electric field generator, a field receiver, a sinusoidally-contoured dielectric rotor, and processing electronics. The coarse/fine, analog output signals are proportional to the sine and cosine of the rotation angle.
Demanding applications suited to the DS-90 include: Aerospace, medical, instrumentation, automation, etc. |

Model 600 Series (Robust)
Field bus interfaces based on Ethernet, PROFIBUS or CAN are examples of the communication protocols often used in automation. These interfaces are available on the Model 600 Series absolute coded singleturn or multiturn encoders. A robust mechanical design in shaft or hollow shaft design ensures that installation and start-up of these models are always reduced to a minimum. Serial point-to-point interfaces such as EnDat or the popular SSI are examples of other communication interfaces often used for position feedback from absolute coded encoders.
