Rotary Unions are self-contained and self-supporting rotary seals used to transfer fluids such as steam, water air or oil, to and from rotating machinery.
Standard units are of steel and iron construction with specials available in, for example, stainless steel and nickel alloys for chemically aggresive fluids or food quality applications.
The range of standard models in three basic types for single or dual flow are available with a choice of ball bearings for temperatures up to 160 degrees celsius and with plain cylindrical carbon bearings for temperatures of 100 degrees celsius up to 300 degrees celsius. Pressure range is 70 bar with rotational speeds up to 5000 rpm. In many instances it is possible to exceed these conditions after first consulting the Filton technical department for advice. |

Rotary Systems designs and manufactures a line of standard and custom over-the-shaft rotary unions.
The rotary union shown is constructed from carbon steel and utilizes a precision ground shaft, radial ball bearings and Teflon seals. This is a two passage rotary union with .25" NPT passages with a four inch bore through the shaft. This union was designed specifically for a high pressure hydraulic indexing application.
Our standard over-the-shaft line of rotary unions can be viewed on our website by clicking on the 011 series. Our standard unions are offered in two and four passages with a .5", 1.5” or 2.0” bore through the shaft. The bore through the shaft is independent from the union. Some customers will pass a shaft or electrical wires through this bore.
If you have a custom rotary union application, please contact our Technical Sales department at 1-800-959-0146.

Duff-Norton manufactures rotary unions, rotary joints, rotating joints and offers a line of 32 series ranging up to 10,000 psi and up to 5000 RPM. Rotary Union® is Duff-Norton%u2019s registered trademark for rotating joints.
Rotating joints are used to transfer fluids from a stationary supply to a rotating component, i.e., a drum or roll.
They are used in process industries like paper, printing, rubber and plastics, textile and chemical; on cranes, on machine tools and in a host of other applications. They are used to provide heating or cooling media like steam, hot oil, water or coolant to control the surface temperature of a drum or roll, to transfer air or hydraulic fluid to moving components or to add fluids to mixers while in motion.
Duff-Norton has traditionally served the markets where it supplies its general purpose joints, such as the rubber and plastics industries, and in the textile market it supplies its 8000T, a joint designed especially for the textile industry. The single largest user industry of rotating joints worldwide is the pulp and paper industry, which requires large quantities of joints for steam, water and hot oil. The steam applications (i.e., dryer cans) are most prevalent in paper mills. |

| Rotary Systems' entry level 90 degree swivel is designed for the hose reel industry. This economical swivel uses a hardened and ground shaft and impregnated Teflon seals. The 001 series is able to withstand high pressures, moderate speeds and low side loads. |
|
| Filton swivel joints are available from 1/4" to 2" BSP with a single or double flow facility for a pressure range of 740mm of mercury vacuum to 400 bar. Sealing is created by using elastomeric 'O' ring seals in the low duty models and PTFE seals in the heavy duty models. |
|
A swivel joint is primarily for use on oscillating shafts, but is also suitable for transfering fluids to and from slowly rotating shafts.
Designs vary from simple knuckle joints, without independant bearings to models containing double row ball bearings for heavier duty. |
