Increased Capability for Reduced Volumes
Standard ANSI pumps (with expanding style volute casing) are not designed for low flow, high head applications. Throttling or recirculating flow to attain low flow conditions causes excessive radial load and shaft deflection—all of which can result in premature failure of bearings and mechanical seals. Griswold’s Model 811LF series features flow capacities as low as 4 GPM, and heads as high as 920'. Plus, 811LF pumps are designed with a circular concentric casing in conjunction with a radial vane impeller to reduce those excessive radial loads and minimize shaft deflection, thus extending MTBPM.
Circular Concentric Volute Casing
The fully machined concentric volute reduces excessive radial loads, shaft vibration and deflection—extending bearing and mechanical seal life. Class 150 raised face flanges are standard with the Model 811LF series for positive sealing. Class 300 raised face flanges are available as an option.
Low Flow Radial Impeller
When operating in reduced volume conditions, the Griswold impeller’s radial vanes provide better hydraulic control than traditional ANSI impellers. Balance holes reduce both axial thrust and seal chamber pressure, extending bearing and seal life.

Inside the rotor slots (1), positioned eccentrically in the pump cylindrical housing (2), free moving vanes (4) are inserted (3). When the rotor turns, the centrifugal force throws the vanes against the cylindrical wall creating multiple chambers. The air taken from the inlet port (4) is compressed inside these chambers and is thrown out to the outlet port (5).

Fuel Pumps
Pumps which are used for the injection of fuels into diesel engines are the technically most demanding members in the family of pressure generators. The provision of fuels under high pressure to common-rail injectors and fuel injection valves calls for robust dimensioning of the pump drives, the determination of optimum clearance in the pump element and the application-oriented selection of high-strength steels with special heat treatment processes. In addition, our pumps are characterized by know-how developed over decades in terms of helices in the case of conventional pump-line-nozzle systems (PLN), component coatings, sealing elements or valve engineering. The results obtained combining hydraulic simulation, static finite elements modeling and nonlinear finite elements analysis already provides clear-cut data in the preliminary design phase as regards delivery rates and efficiency levels, component loads or lifetimes as well as the minimum surface pressures necessary for sealing.

These pumps have a number of vanes that are free to slide into or out of slots in the pump rotor. When the pump driver turns the rotor, centrifugal force, push rods, and/or pressurized fluid causes the vanes to move outward in their slots and bear against the inner bore of the pump casing forming pumping chambers.
As the rotor revolves, fluid flows into the area between the vanes (pumping cambers) when they pass the suction port. This fluid is transported around the pump casing until the discharge port is reached. At this point the fluid is squeezed out into the discharge piping.

The variable volume and pressure compensated design simplifies circuit design, reduces heat and noise, and can lower horsepower requirements. These rugged PVR vane pumps feature compact design and excellent horsepower to weight ratios, and are known for being the medium pressure workhorse in the industry. PVR pumps maintain constant pressure while matching system flow demands.
A direct spring operated compensator provides fast response for varying system demands and eliminates contamination prone hydraulic assisted compensator valves and pistons. The patented "Walking Ring" design is a unique indexing pressure ring design that rotates slightly with every change in output. Wear is distributed evenly around the inside surface of the ring circumference, which helps to extend pump life.
Hydrodynamic journal bearings eliminate shaft to bearing contact, and since there are no moving parts with this bearing design, pump life is not determined by a B-10 rating. Balanced vane tip loading acts throughout the entire pumping cycle to extend ring and vane life. The one piece forged rotor shaft can absorb system loads with minimal deflection.
To simplify maintenance, the patented pressure balanced thrust plate eliminates the need for shims and spacer units, and yields pump efficiencies up to 90%. Computer designed porting reduces noise at all pressure and flow levels with noise levels as low as 68 dBa [NFPA T3.9 12M-1970 (R1981) Tested]. This can help eliminate the costs for special noise abatement enclosures.
