Very versatile Mechanical Seals manufactured in accordance to UNI EN 12756 (ex DIN 24960) standards, are widely used in the chemical industry and in general duties.
They are available in both single-spring and multi-spring balanced versions, for shaft diameters greater than 100 mm, and all of them allow the double directional rotation.
Double seals with single-bodies are available for reducing axial dimensions.
|
|
Mechanical seals are available as: single, double complete with pumping ring, single with V-ring, single and double seals capable for dry running.
All of these seals are suitable for DIN and ANSI type flanges, which have very limited radial and axial dimensions and are ideal for pumps, mixers, fans and other equipment.
The cartridge assembly minimises installation problems to a minimum and is suitable for most applications.
There is also a version available with a thicker shaft sleeve and larger internal clearances designed for fitting to equipment and stirrers that are submitted usually to substantial mechanical stresses, oscillation, vibration and run-out.

Mechanical seals suitable for corrosive fluids, widely used in chemical industry.
They are made of special materials resistant to chemical attacks and have no metallic parts in contact with product.
Double seals with single-bodies are available for reducing axial dimensions.
Using suitable technical features and special materials we can manufacture versions suitable for dry running, these can also be used also in stirrers.

Seals have been developed to operate on propeller shafts of small, medium and large size boats where a high level of reliability is required.
The special design allows large axial displacement and the use of suitable material guarantees as well as high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical resistance to withstand stresses produced by vibrations.
The installation of mechanical seals in this particular field has solved problems such as corrosion during long periods of inactivity and shaft damage caused by traditional stuffing boxes. Power absorption is considerably reduced as well.

Chesterton’s 186HT Single Bellows High Temperature Cartridge seal is designed to provide greater reliability in the most demanding services.
Chesterton offers the proven, nesting ripple bellows design. In the nesting ripple design, all bellows plates are identical and contoured to permit nesting when compressed. Nesting distributes pressure uniformly accross the span of the bellows. The end result is less stress at the bellows welds.
While the industry standard is nine convolutions bellows spring, Chesterton uses a twelve convolution bellows core. The twelve convolutions achieves maximum bellows plate thickness while it does not compromise the bellows spring rate. The design offers lower heat generation and greater seal reliability.

The modular family concept of John Crane's Universal Cartridge will change your approach to sealing. Since the 5600 Series' components are interchangeable, you can apply one seal family throughout your plant. This gives you the flexibility to cover more applications with less inventory, which means your maintenance is simplified, downtime is reduced, plant operating efficiency is increased, and costs are lowered.

Unique Spiral Groove Technology
Patented John Crane spiral grooves are machined into the mating ring faces. A pressurized suitable inert gas is injected between the seals. As the shaft rotates, gas flows into the tip of the spiral groove and is compressed at the sealing dam, the ungrooved portion of the mating ring. At the sealing dam, gas is expanded. The resultant film pressure gives an opening force greater than the closing force, thus separating the faces.
The Type 2800 spiral groove continues to operate, even if barrier gas pressure is momentarily lost, maintaining the gas film between the barrier gas and the process

Mechanical seals are used for the sealing of rotating shafts against a stationary housing, e.g. in pumps and agitators. The stationary" part of the seal is usually located at the housing, the rotating" part is fixed on the shaft. The high-precision face-machined sliding faces rotate axially in opposition. The sliding faces are pressed against each other by means of spring force, thus preventing the opening of the seal. The seal faces are statically sealed against the housing and the shaft by secondary seals (O-rings). With the entry of the pumped medium into the minimal sealing gap a lubricating film is generated and the sealing effect is thus obtained.
The design, arrangement and combination of materials of the seal is basically determined by pressure, temperature, speed of rotation and quality of the pumped medium. Shaft diameters of 5...500 mm, pressures from 10 torr ....250 bar, temperatures from -200°C... +450°C and sliding velocities up to 150 m/s limit the operating range of mechanical seals. Additional seal supply systems or buffer fluid systems may be required, dependent on the mode of operation, the quality of the medium and the seal arrangement..

Type 28 compressor dry-running gas seals have been the industry standard since early 1970 for gas-handling turbomachinery. Utilizing John Crane's patented spiral groove pattern, these seals are non-contacting in operation. During dynamic operation, the mating ring/seat and primary ring/face maintain a sealing gap of approximately 0.0002 in./5 microns, thereby eliminating wear. These seals eliminate seal oil contamination and reduce maintenance costs and downtime. Single, double opposed, and tandem cartridge seals are capable of handling a wide variety of gas sealing applications in the gas collection/transmission, refining, chemical and petrochemical processing industries.

442M split mixer seal is specifically designed to reliably perform in services which routinely exhibit large amounts of radial shaft runout.
Large internal clearances allow radial shaft movement without damaging seal components.
Patented Automatic Centering Maximum radial runout performance demands perfect centering.
Unique centering "buttons" positively center the gland about the rotating element. This ensures maximum radial travel in all directions. Face "Wiping" is minimized in rotating narrow face designs, if the equipment shaft is not concentric to the stuffing box bore, particles are prevented from being transported across seal face wear track due to the wiping action created. The lapped seal faces are nprotected from damage.
