Metal-O-rings and C-rings for extreme operating conditions
From ultrahigh vacuum up to 6800 bar (100000 psi) pressure and temperatures from -269°C cryogenic up to +980°C (-425°F up to 1800°F).
Resistant to chemicals to a large extent.
GFD metal O-rings have been developed as a secure sealing of gases and liquids. They even can be used in case of extreme conditions. These static and metallic sealing elements can be applied in ranges of ultrahigh vacuum and up to a pressure of 6800 bar. They are suitable in case of continous temperatures from 269 degrees centigrade below zero up to 980 degrees centigrade above zero and resistant to radioactive radiation, chlorides, corrosion and other aggressive influences. They neither age in use or during storage.
Advantages:
With conventional flanged joints many technical data, from which only very few are precisely available during the design state, have to be known for the calculation. Also the values for the rigidity of the flange, the screws etc. have to be available. The consequence are extensive calculations with imprecise or assumed values and the involved disadvantages. There is always a defined initial tension, no setting and smaller flange and screw dimensions with the GFD metal-O-rings or lip seals. The proof has not to be furnished with complicated and difficult calculations about unknown quantities but simply by adding the forces of pressure to the operating pressures.

Layers of all metal gaskets are formed into four cross-sectional profiles (round, rectangular, round with tail and double round with tail) and into a range of sizes to suite a large number of applications. Available in seven wire types: monel, tinned copper clad steel, stainless steel, beryllium copper, tinned copper, aluminium.
All metal gaskets offer excellent EMI shielding performance, providing electrical continuity when compressed between two mating surfaces.

The DONIT TESNIT® grooved gasket is the preferred gasket when improved performance at low seating stresses is required. It features excellent anti-blowout properties linked with the reliability of a solid metal-to-metal seal combined with a soft sealing face to provide a tighter joint. Metal gaskets with grooved faces have proven to be very effective for sealing flange connections, and are particularly suitable for applications where high temperatures, pressures and fluctuating conditions are encountered. Non-metal cover layers ensure that flanges are not damaged, even at extreme loads, and provide excellent sealing properties when supported by the grooved metallic gasket. The DONIT TESNIT® grooved gasket is an ideal replacement for problem applications associated with jacketed gaskets, for heat exchangers, vessels and reactors and various flanged connections.
Advantages
* Capable of sealing pressures exceeding 250 bar.
* Capable of withstanding temperatures up to 700°C.
* Particularly effective in maintaining performance under condition of fluctuating temperatures and pressures.
* Solid construction provides stability even for large diameters and ensures trouble-free handling and installation.
* Gaskets can be fitted to existing assemblies without modification.
Shape and construction
The DONIT TESNIT® grooved gaskets are produced in several types to fit the most demanding applications.

O-rings are a Seal Science specialty. Utilizing advanced material science, SSI provides O-ring solutions in many types of elastomeric/ rubber compounds. SSI incorporates advanced materials in its design methodology ranging from Perfluoroelastomers to alloy filled conductives elastomers.
SSI utilizes on-site molding making capabilities to provide molded O-rings from .030” inches OD to over 40.0 inches. SSI has the capability for performance molding of O-rings with ultra critical measurement tolerances, as well as providing less critical, economically costed, high volume supply alternatives.
Seal Science incorporated finite element analysis (FEA) in its O-ring design to develop the most optimal size seal for an application.
SSI has a complete compound development capability to provide O-rings made from current off-the-shelf (COTS), and custom engineered elastomers made from the following:
- Silicones
- Fluorosilicones
- Isoprene
- Nitriles (Lubricated and High Strength)

The requirement for low coefficients of friction, less than .08, temperatures ranging from -300F to +550F, pressures in excess of 5000 psi, the need to seal a corrosive acid .....These are the typical kinds of factors that tell you that an elastomeric seal probably wont fit your application.
Seal Science PTFE or Teflon® Seals and Seal Science Perflex perfluoroelastomer are often the answer. Possibly something as simple as a PTFE O-Ring, or a PTFE compound cap to protect the elastomer will do. Or maybe, spring energized PTFE U-Cups, like those in our Polyspring line might be needed.

Metal Seals/Resilient Metal Seals are designed for applications that require temperature and chemical resistance beyond that of even Parofluor Series elastomers. These seals are offered in many cross-sections, including "C," "U," "E," and "V," with spring-energized variations.
Parker S-Shape and Omega Metal Seals are high performance, resilient metal seals intended for separable joint type applications requiring
resistance to temperature and pressure extremes, resistance to corrosive fluids, zero leakage and exceptionally long life.
The Parker S-Shape Metal Seal features low seating load, high resilience. They are self energizing and pressure assisted. Parker S-Shape Metal Seals are reusable and require a very simple cavity design.
The high strength base metal "spring" is coated with a softer sealing material. When compressed between flat surfaces, the spring seal forces the soft coating material into the mating surface roughness, blocking all potential leak paths. Once initiated, the intimate contact is maintained by the seal's resilience, overcoming the effects of temperature, pressure, flange separation and reduction of bolt torque.
The Parker O-Seal Division also produces two additional types of resilient metal seals for use in super-critical sealing of nuclear, aerospace and aircraft engine applications. Both the Parker Mark I and Mark II Metal Seals are available in a wide range of base metals and surface coatings from PTFE to gold plating. For "zero leakage" applications, the Parker Mark I is
recommended and is available in either internal or external pressure versions, depending upon customer requirements.
The cavity for a Parker SShape Metal Seal must provide controlled squeeze, seal location, adequate sealing surface and structural support.
Parker S-Shape Metal Seals are recommended for use in applications beyond the limits of elastomeric O-ring seals. Typical applications for the Parker S-Seal include jet engine fuel and exhaust seals, nuclear couplings, cryogenics, bakeable vacuu hardware, steam systems, turbine engines, cylinder heads and plastics processing equipment. For complete information on available sizes, metals, coatings and dimensional requirements for S-Seal glands, contact the Parker O-Seal Division Technical Services Department at 310
