In 2004 OMLAT spa studied and realised several electric spindle applications for grinding, with the technical characteristic of having hydrostatic bushes instead of ball bearings.
This concept (an oil cushion with approx. 60 bar pressure) makes it possible to obtain a dynamic rigidity that is more than three times that obtained with the mechanical solution (ball bearings) and consequently guarantees a very high quality finish.
These spindles have been constructed for tangential grinding machines, for the large size bearings sector and for the rolling cylinder grinding sector.
Both asynchronous and synchronous motors have been used able to fully meet the project requirements regarding performance (power and rotation speed), together with a very low vibration level, appropriate for high-precision machining.
With the high rigidity obtained by this system, last generation tools can be used to full advantage, ensuring the best output and long life.
Here we indicate the speed range of the hydrostatic electrospindles.
- Speed: range: from 1800 to 3000 min-1
- Power range (S1/100%): from 35 to 45 kW
- Torque (S1/100%): from 100 to 380 Nm
- Wheel: range from ø400mm to ø1000mm

The Electrospindle is projected for the standard milling.
The compact dimensions make it suitable for the double rotating machining head.
The electrospindle is equipped with a liquid cooling system throught the shaft.
All the connections are located on the spindle side.

- Max Power (S1/100%): 8 kW
- Max Torque (S1/100%): 12.7 Nm

No more than 15 years ago they were used to equip special-purpose grinders, while nowadays they are often included in the standard equipment of general-purpose grinders thanks also to the remarkable versatility in electronics.
Electrospindles are largely used in mass-production; in fact, manufacturers of bearings, ball and socket joints, injectors and pumps are all great users of this component.
In addition, the automation in wheel replacement has markedly increased their use.

This is solution for who is searching for an automatic tool change helping the main spindles to do all the operations, less heavy operations, on wood, plastics, light alloys that however are requiring fast executions with different tools. To this intention, and to don't burden on the machine's cooling plants. Omlat designed a new innovative housing that, thanks to his particular shape gives the necessary thermal exchange area to auto-control the spindle temperature.
Also optional integrated Encoder for the shaft's angular speed control and gearbox "C" axis fot the machining with the 4th axis.

COLLET ELECTROSPINDLES
Rectangular collet series electrospindle are designed for high power density and compactness, making them ideal for wood, plastic and aluminium. The body structure is made of extruded aluminium casing with inner cooling air flow passages. Bearings are pre-lubricated, sealed, protected by labyrinths. They don't need maintenance.
Rectangular collet series electrospindles are realised to suit better at all different conditions of using both for milling, drilling and edgebending. Collet type are available with high efficiency cooling fan and also with electrical fan. The wide range of powers, from 0.35 kW to13.5kW with rotation speed up to 24.000 allow a wide-using versatility that covers all kind of working conditions with axial and radial force. "Quality without Compromises" unquestionable service and the highest reliability. Rectangular series electrospindles are manufactured in respect of the norms and are planned to offer a wide possibility of overloading.
