Specially designed Step Motor Driver can be directly mounted on the motor
JVL has developed the smallest step motor driver to date, SMD73. The Driver measures only 52.4 x 52.4 mm and can be directly mounted on the motor. It fits onto most types of high-torque motor, and can of course also be mounted on a surface.
The PCB is equipped with an 8-pin connector. 4 terminals are used for the motor connection, 2 for the external power supply, and 2 are used to control the motor via step-pulse and direction signals. The Driver supplies 2.6A RMS in each phase, and current is automatically regulated to 0.8A when the motor is not receiving step pulses. The Driver controls the motor in half-step mode, which results in 400 steps/rev. The Driver can handle up to 20 ksteps/sec and a "half-step" current regulation ensures that the current is increased by a factor of 1.4 every second step in order to yield maximum motor torque.
The Driver can be powered from 15-28VDC up to 5A. It is equipped with a green LED which indicates that power is on, and a red LED which indicates an error condi-tion.
For other applications, the Driver is available with step resolutions of 1/1, 1/4, 1/8 steps/rev., and with selectable motor current.

The SMC35 Step Motor Controller, is equipped with a built-in mikro-PLC, 11 inputs and 8 outputs. 2 analogue inputs and 1 analogue output. The Controller offers high torque, high velocity and high resolution in order to solve the most demanding applications in the industry. Programming is accomplished from a PC using JVL's Windows-based software MotoWare, which ensures quick and easy set-up, programming, and running in of a system. 2 built-in microprocessors ensure true multi-tasking with change of velocity, acceleration, outputs, etc., while the motor is running. The Controller additionally includes advanced timers, counters and interrupt facilities so that any task can be solved. An encoder input enables motor position and ”stall” to be detected so that corrective measures can be taken. An external step- and servo- driver with pulse/direction can be connected so that 1˝ axis movement can be performed..
The SMC35 offers fast, 20kHz switching, recirculating digital current control, anti-resonance circuitry and software selection of current, step resolution, velocity, etc. It offers selection of mini-step resolution, where each mechanical full-step is divided into many fine small steps (1, 2, 4 and 8 ministeps/fullstep).

The Motion Coordinator Euro209 is a 3U Eurocard stepper/servo positioner with the built-in ability to control up to 8 servo or stepper motors in any combination. In addition a single Trio Daughter Board may be fitted to allow the control of an additional axis, communications channel or a digital drive interface allowing up to 16 axes. User programs are written in Trio’s established Multi-Tasking BASIC and applications can be developed using the Windows based MotionPerfect environment. Complex motion profiles are easily programmed and these can be linked to a master encoder input for slaving, gearing and cams.
The ethernet port is controlled by a dedicated Coldfire® communications co-processor allowing fast reliable data communication between the Euro 209 and PC and gives the ability to program multiple cards over an Ethernet LAN. The Euro209 has one RS-232 port and one RS-485 built in that may be configured to run the MODBUS protocol for PLC or HMI interfacing. If the built-in CAN channel is not used for connecting I/O modules, it may optionally be used for CAN communications or as a DeviceNet Slave. USB and Profibus daughter boards may be fitted to provide additional communications options. The Euro209 features a total of 16 axes in software. Any axes not having a hardware interface can be used as a “virtual” axis. |

What is Pole Damping™ Technology?
Pole Damping™ Technology (PDT) enhances step motor performance by dampening each full step in order to create a more accurate and smooth motion profile. Microstepping the step motor will optimize Pole Damping™ Technology. PDT outputs the correct amount of run and hold currents to the motor. Thus, it will overcome the step motor’s natural tendency to want to forcefully pull towards the full step ON position.

A chopper drive is one method of driving a stepper motor with constant current rather than constant voltage. This reduces the effects of counter EMF and inductance, increasing torque at higher speeds.
One or more of Zaber's T-CD chopper drives can be daisy-chained to a single RS-232 serial port or USB port on any computer. They can also be daisy-chained with any other T-Series products. Convenient 6-pin mini din cables on the unit allow for direct interconnection between units in close proximity. For longer distances, standard cable extension can be used. To control motor position, simply transmit on the serial port the unit number of the device you want to move, a simple move command and the position desired. After the move, the T-CD will report the final position. |

GMH is the name of a series of ministep bipolar chopper drives, suitable for driving two-phase stepping motors, with four, six or eight terminals.
GMH drives are realized in single EUROPA format cards (100 x 160 mm.) and are equipped with a 32 pole, DIN 41612 form D connector. They are therefore designed to be assembled inside a RACK, complete with motherboard, that could be supplied as an option by R.T.A. |

The SMD41/42 series of micro and mini-step drivers is available in 13 different models, with supply voltages from 15VDC to 160VDC, 3, 6 and 9 Amp models, full- half-, mini- and micro-step resolutions that can be changed by dipswitch, up to 25000 step/revolution, and more.
The 160V driver, SMD42 is physically similar to the popular SMD41 mini-step driver, but is intended for high-velocity, high-torque applications. The SMD42 can be powered by a 160VDC supply (compared to 80VDC for the SMD41). This yields up to double the torque at velocities over 500RPM. Heat generation is kept to an absolute minimum through the use of the latest MOSFET technology.
Together with JVL step motor MST 340-342, the 160 V version, SMD42, achieves a remarkable torque of 7-8Nm even at high velocities.
