The mixer/heat-exchanger CSE-XR was developed and patented by Fluitec AG. It is the most important invention in the static mixing technology of the last 20 years.
The CSE-XR is mainly used for temperature conditioning of highly viscous liquids at laminar flow. A strongly defined and well controlled homogeneity is guaranteed in any situation as well, as a very narrow residence time distribution. The reason for this excellent performance is its geometry, which is consequently based on the geometry of the most efficient static mixer type, the CES-X.
The very high radial mixing efficiency constantly ensures an intensive flow against the internal heat transferring tubes, thus allowing a
the compact design of this device.
Multitube heat exchangers are often not dedicated for scale-ups. Problems occur mainly in cooling processes at laminar flow conditions, when the product can "freeze" in particular tubes, due to its increased viscosity at lower temperatures. Uncontrolled residence time distribution and maldistribution are thereby leading to a bad process control.
Monotube heat exchangers (tubes with a double shell) can be built much smaller, if using static mixers. The mixing elements are improving the surface renewal rate significantly.

|
Static mixers are well established and widespread in all fields of chemical process technology. It is characteristically for static mixers, that, in contrast to dynamic mixers, only the media to be mixed are in motion. The liquids or gases are mixed by pump energy only, while the geometrically strong defined Fluitec mixing elements in the tube remain in position.
Among others, static mixing elements can be applied in the following fields of application:
mixing of pumpable fluids
dispersing and emulsifying of insoluble liquids (cleavage)
mixing of reactive liquids
mixing and homogenisation of polymers (hot-melts)
contacting of gas and liquid phases
mixing of gases
tempering of viscous media
In contrast to empty tubes, static mixer possess a very high efficiency for self-cleaning.
Wear of static mixers is negligible due to the lack of any moving parts.

YTRON-XC powder dispersing unit. It is used for dissolving / dispersing of large quantities of solids such as Sodium- and Potassium-Caseinates, Milk Powder, Starch, Sugar, Silicates, Pigments and actives. YTRON-XC is used widely for the production of base mixes and concentrates before spray drying, in three shift productions.
Powders and compounds with a tendency to form lumps are continously incorporated from a BigBag or silo and efficiently dispersed inLine. The motor power used for standard applications typically ranges between 5,5 kW and 15,00 kW . This indicates the efficiency of the YTRON. The quantity of powders incorporated is up to approx. 12.000 kg/h, depending on the powders used.
|
|
YTRON-Y ByPass system - Incorporation of free flowing powders without a tendency to stick of form lumps such as Silica, Active Carbon, HPMC, Cocoa, Flour, Carbon Black, can be drawn in below liquid level by the negative pressure created by the rotor/stator system. The venturi shaped stator and the negative pressure created by the flow it affects, draws the powder in, dispersing it instantly and homogeneously into the liquid. The formation of lumps is eliminated.
Certain powders with a low bulk density can be sucked directly and dust-free from a bag or other container.
Liquids such as S.L.E.S., concentrates, additives, and pastes can as well be pumped in via the YTRON-Y ByPass tube, directly into the turbulent zone in the YTRON-Y mixing head. They are then quickly and instantly diluted or dispersed into the batch. The mixing efficiency of YTRON-Y remains unchanged.

Disintegrator 2500
If you thought it couldn’t be done think again. Silverson’s mighty Disintegrator 2500 mixing system will disintegrate, solubilise or disperse the largest of solids - up to 40’ (1000mm) across – in a single operation and in times you wouldn’t believe!
The D2500 incorporates a powerful and unique Silverson mixer located in the bottom of a custom-built vessel. The mixer exerts a massive suction downwards from the surface of the liquid, pulling down even the most buoyant of solids, no matter what the size. These solids are literally ripped apart and dispersed throughout the mix, and with the refinement of a Silverson In-Line Mixer, included in the system, are totally solublised or suspended. |
|
The Duplex is an immersion mixer which consists of two rotor/stator workheads mounted on a single shaft. The upper workhead is inverted so that it draws materials down from the surface of the mix and subjects them to an initial coarse disintegration. The lower workhead then draws this liquid and solid material upwards from the base of the vessel and provides further high shear processing. This system can rapidly reduce solids to a fine particle size, resulting in considerably faster disintegration and solubilisation. The improved product movement produced by the two workheads also makes the Duplex ideal for use on high viscosity materials and for incorporation of powders which tend to float and are difficult to wet out.
The Duplex was originally designed for rapid disintegration and solubilisation of solid rubbers and polymers for the luboil and adhesive industries. However, the considerable advantages offered by the system has led to its introduction into other applications, including in the food, chemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. Duplex machines are available in a range of sizes from laboratory scale units up to the KDD, one of the largest immersion mixers in the Silverson range.
Typical applications include:
Rapid solution of rubbers and polymers into lubricating oils, solvents and bitumen
Disintegration and dissolving of solid resins into varnishes, inks and other coatings
Dispersion and blending of press cakes or filter cakes
Rapid incorporation of pigments and fillers
Recovery of waste sugar confectionery
Preparation of plant extracts
Disintegration of frozen meats, bone slurries, meat pastes/purées |

Mixing highly abrasive materials such as ceramics, silica, mica, clays, chalk, graphites etc. can cause severe wear to mixing equipment, particularly on the bush and mixer shaft, reducing efficiency and leading to high maintenance costs and downtime.
Silverson offers a high shear mixer specifically for applications of this nature – the Abramix RBX series.
Silverson High Shear mixers are supremely efficient and can cut mixing times by up to 90% when compared to conventional agitators. The shortened mixing times obtained from using a Silverson mixer dramatically reduces the impact of abrasive materials. To enhance this advantage, the Abramix features a heavy-duty shaft which is firmly supported by two precision roller bearings, situated above the level of the product being mixed. The stability and vibration-free running which results from this arrangement removes the need for an immersed bush and reduces the wear to the mixer shaft. Rotor tips are specially hard tipped, further reducing the effect on wetted parts and the associated downtime and maintenance costs - minimum maintenance is a key feature of the design.
Another benefit of the Abramix model is dry running. Mixing of non-flammable products can continue uninterrupted while the vessel is being emptied, especially useful where suspensions need to be maintained or where thixotropic products are being processed.
Typical Applications
• Liquid Glazes - Preparation and Re-dispersion including Incorporation of Pigments, Wetting Agents, Hardeners, etc.
• Ceramic slips
• Clays and Silicas
• Texture Paints
• Foundry Compounds. |

YTRON-Z is a powerful unit for dispersing, desagglomerating, emulsifying, wet grinding and homogenising in a single pass. The reactor head of YTRON-Z houses up to three rotor/stator sets, carrying each 3 slotted rows of teeth with different slot widths to allow for adaptation to the specific application. Even shear sensitive products such as Yoghurt and sour cream are treated gently. This has lead to the development of the yoghurt STRETCHING ® process which revolutionised the process of yoghurt production.
The use of YTRON-Z for YTRONising of liquid products lead to results fully comparable to the products formerly processed via high pressure homogenisers, in some cases the results got even better at a significantly reduced production cost.
The use of special, shear intense tooling in continuous processing allows for production of emulsions (O/W und W/O) with a very fine particle size distribution or, in suspensions, an efficient wet milling or desagglomeration process. YTRON-Z is used in Food Processing, Chemical Production, Cosmetic Industry and Pharmaceutical Industry.

Silverson offers a range of High Shear In-Line mixers developed for the disintegration & solubilisation of polymers into bitumen for the production of modified bitumens. The cylindrical body walls are jacketed for oil heating, ensuring that the product cannot cool & solidify inside machines.
Because processing products that solidify when cold requires thorough heat saturation before start-up, the machines ensure heat reaches all areas where residue accumulates.
Sealing is by means of a graphite/carbon fibre gland packing, designed for operation on bitumens. Standard mechanical shaft seals are available according to the application. Like all Silverson units, interchangeable stators can adapt the machine for varying processes.
Modified bitumen production Polymers & rubbers such as SBS, APP, PVC, EVA & Butyl are blended with bitumen primarily used in the production of road surfaces & roofing felts. The polymers modify bitumen to improve its physical stability, flexibility & resistance to extreme temperatures.
Some polymers such as SBS are more difficult to dissolve/disperse & require high shear to achieve a satisfactory mixing time. Silverson Jacketed In-Line mixers attain this. The bitumen/polymer mix is recycled through the Silverson In-Line mixer where the high shear rotor/stator workhead rapidly disintegrates the polymer pieces. This high shear action exposes constantly increasing areas of fresh polymer to the surrounding bitumen, reducing the process time.
Typical applications: Polymer modified bitumen (production of modified road bitumen & roofing felts), Bitumen emulsions, Underseals & waterproofing compounds, Bitumen cable insulation |

| YTRON-ZC powder disperser. Instantly wetting and thorough dispersing of extremely difficult to wet powders and concentrations of 50% and more, leading to highest yields in viscosity. Only a single pass is required to achieve a perfecly wetted product. Typical products to be processed are difficult to wet thickeners and binders such as CMC, Guar, Locust Bean Gum, Alginates, Carrageenan, Pectin, Xanthan Gum as well as other polymers with a tendency to form lumps such as Polyacrylic Acids, Carbopol ® etc. The wide range of YTRON-ZC types ensures that specific requirements from lab size up to production size for incorporating of more than 5.000 kg/h of powders is possible using the standard production range. |
|
| YTRON-PID (Powder-Inject-Disperse). The thickener or gelling agents is drawn out of a hopper, BigBag or a silo into an injection chamber where it is pre-wetted by the liquid phase. This pre-wetting process is designed to occur without product hold-up. The forced passage through the rotor/stator system ensures a perfectly wetted out product. A pump installed downstream achieves a controlled discharge of the product. The tendency of powders to stick or form lumps on the contact surfaces of the powder/liquid injection chamber is totally eliminated during either continuous or short process intervals. Typical applications are: Alginate, Blanose ® Carbopol ®, all powdery MC or CMC types, Guar, Xanthan, Neutragel ®, Polyelectrolytes, etc. |

Silverson's new hygienic series of High Shear Bottom Entry Mixers are designed to fit into the bottom or side of a mixing vessel. These high shear mixers are typically used in conjunction with a slow speed anchor stirrer or scraper unit for high viscosity products. The Silverson Bottom Entry mixer gives high shear homogenisation while the stirrer/scraper distributes the homogenised output uniformly through the vessel. This is ideal for high viscosity cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food products.
Bottom Entry mixers can also be used by themselves on low viscosity products and to wet out powders.
Silverson Bottom Entry Mixers offer full compliance with 3A, USDA and GMP requirements. |
