As Gas Chromatograph users will probably confirm, little has changed in the past decades in the way hydrogen gas is used in the laboratory. Now that picture is set to change, thanks to a remarkable multi-disciplinary gas generator manufactured by Parker Balston. Their new paradigm solution for generating hydrogen in laboratories is so easy to use that it could potentially save thousands of Euros a year in expensive downtime and installation costs.
Four different models have been upgraded to the 100, 165, 260 and 510 ml/min units producing high purity hydrogen, 99.9999% at up to 6.89 bar. Special features include an advanced PEM electrochemical cell protection system with microprocessor controls, a unique water hydration circulation purification system. This is also complimented by USB capability with software options for remote monitoring and control, blue intensity back lighted display for simple operator use with touch screen visuals for system status checks, Automatic water fill options, and data logging performance controls for preventative maintenance with reporting tools for use in regulated environments where system validations are required.
These generators will allow GC (Gas Chromatograph) users to supply, control, and automate all hydrogen gas supplies. A single generator can support up to as many as 13 instruments with high purity hydrogen.
Other applications include fuel gases for total hydrocarbon analyzers, supply gases for hydrogenation reactors, hydrogen for pilot scale fuel cells assays and hydrogen for collision reaction gases.
Each generator is available as standard with a two-year warranty emphasizing the quality and reliability
Parker Balston is the worldwide leader in separation and filtration technologies, and offers a broad range of analytical gas generators to meet your specific analytical instrument requirements. All products are backed by a fully staffed field sales and service organization.

HGH-300 and HGH-500 Hydrogen Generator
HGH-300 and HGH-500 high purity hydrogen generators are based on the technology of astronautic fuel cells, in which hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of water, and the produced oxygen is released to the atmosphere. The generator consists of electrolyzing/separating pool, power supply, pressure control, desiccation& purification, flow display, etc. The core part -- electrolyzing & separating pool, uses a tube shaped positive pole and a plate shaped negative pole. Both poles are made of stainless steel. The electrolyzing & separating pools can store electrolyte, produce hydrogen as well as release hydrogen at the same time.
The HGH series hydrogen generators have the advantages of large electrolyzing area, low temperature of the pool, better performance, high productability and high purity of hydrogen. The instrument has specially designed to prevent liquid from backflowing

Parker Balston® SOURCE LCMS-5000 Series is now available for Applied BioSystems MDS Sciex API-LC/MS users
The Parker Balston® SOURCE-LCMS-5000 is a visually integrated and functionally modular LC/MS gas generation system which produces high purity nitrogen, zero air and exhaust pump gases for all Applied Biosystems – MDS Sciex LC/MS/MS instruments.
It produces nitrogen, zero air and pump exhaust air by utilizing a combination of a compressor with filtration, catalysts and membrane separation technologies. An integrated low-maintenance compressed air supply is filtered by high efficiency coalescing filters removing all contaminants down to 0.01 micron. Hollow fiber membranes subsequently divide the clean air into a concentrated nitrogen stream. The zero air is produced by catalytic oxidation which converts the hydrocarbons. A passive hollow-fiber dehydration membrane is used to create the exhaust pump gas.
The integrated Scroll compressor is ‘whisper’ quite at only 48 dBA and is supplied as standard with a 10,000 hour / 3 year warranty. Low maintenance and reliable this offers the best compressor warranty currently available on the market.

BENEFITS AND SAVINGS
- H2 production only on demand
- Ultra compact design
- Improved productivity and chromatography results
- Improved safety in the lab
- Extended column life
- Increased efficiency in the laboratory
- No caustic solutions required
- Recommanded by the major analytical instruments company
APPLICATION
Eliminate the high pressure H2 gas cylinders of the laboratory by generating a continuous source of pure H2 gas for the following applications:
- GC-FID, NPD, TCD, ELCD, HALL
- GC-Carrier gas
- THA
OPERATING MODE
These generators use the newest membrane technology for the electrolytic production of pure H2 gas. This technology was preferred over alternative hydrogen generating techniques because it is clean, requires less maintenance and there is no need to store chemicals to maintain operation. Hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water through a polymer membrane. Only pure water, either distilled or deionised, is required to provide trouble free long term operation. A dessican t cartridge purifies the hydrogen.
Safety features :
The small contained volume(< 50 ml )makes the generator safe for operation in spaces where cylinder hydrogen is restricted. An auto shutt off procedure places the unit in standby in the event of an internal error, and selectable alarms allow the user to be informed whenever operating conditions vary from the set point.
