Based on the high-precision evaluation of several coil systems, the new position measurement systems are a combination of proven inductive sensor technology and innovative microcontroller technology. Due to the simultaneous evaluation of multiple coil systems, these positioning systems provide very high repeatability, accuracy and resolution. Because of their inductive principle of operation they do not need ferrites or magnets as counterparts. Like an inductive proximity switch, the target can be made of any metal. Integrated safety functions, which for instance display the removal of the target out of the detection range, ensure additional system safety. Due to integrated temperature compensation, the inductive positioning systems are also well suited for harsh environments and critical positioning tasks.
Advantages:
High resolution and accuracy
Very good repeatability
Minimum temperature drift
Non-contact detection
Absolute
Teachable

Glass scale technology is the industry standard and is preferred worldwide for position feedback. For nearly four decades, ACU-RITE's precision glass scale technology has proven its superior reliability through consistent accuracy and durability.
Glass is an inherently stable material that resists changes in size, shape or density due to variations in temperature or humidity. This stability allows for the generation of numerous ultra-fine line patterns; providing ACU-RITE precision glass scales with exceptional accuracy down to ±1.5µm (.00006").
ACU-RITE scales are available in travel lengths from 1"-773" and in resolutions from 0.5µm (.00002") to 10µm (.0005").

Heavy duty measuring unit, dual measuring wheels for better stability and contact, frame/bulkhead mounted.
This rugged instrument has a wide range of applications where an accurate record of length is required. It is a strong, heavy duty unit for use on calenders, tenters, rolling, ribbon winding textile machinery and almost all other continuous manufacturing processes. The unit can incorporate any of the heavy duty mechanical revolution counters described in the totalising and predetermining sections of this site.
• Available with shaft encoder for driving electronic counters or computers.
• Sturdy die-cast construction.
• Uses standard measuring wheels.
• Can tilted out of the way when not in use.
• Supplied with stand as an option.
The 2300 bolts directly onto a bulkhead or frame member. The intregal hinge arrangement allows the unit to be positioned at any angle.
The measuring wheels supplied can be 0.5m or 0.3m (18in or 12in) circumference (specify when
ordering). The weight of the assembly holds it in contact with the material being measured.

The magnetic measurement system includes a sensor an electronic converter and a magnetic tape. The sensor head detects the position as it is moved over the magnetic tape.
Magnetic rings are also available for rotary motion as alternative to linear magnetic tape. Different shapes, dimensions and custom-made versions are available.
The magnetic rings can be completely integrated on customer machine; they are available for diameter up to 500 mm and they can be mounted with any Lika sensor.
The measuring system is non-contacting and therefore wear-free.
Application areas are woodworking machines and sheet metal machines.
Some features are:
- IP67 protection level
- Reduced dimensions
- Resolution up to 1 mm
Low application cost is one of the system’s advantages. Moreover the system is protected against contamination and works even with strong vibrations, or in humid or dirty environment.

Atomic Force Microscopy
Atomic Force Microscopes (AFMs) scan the surface of a sample using a very fine tip on the end of a microscale cantilever.
Atomic interactions between the tip and the surface lead to a deflection of the cantilever which is then detected by a piezoresistive element. Based on this effect, the AFM can measure the topography or roughness of a surface with very high resolution non destructively. The AFM can be used in different operating modes and thus allows for the investigation of further properties, such as electrical and magnetical forces or elasticity of a specimen.

Description:
Nowadays, the properties of surface topographies are increasingly influenced by new processing methods and new materials.
The traditional profile stylus method is often not adequate to characterize the functional behavior of surfaces. Three-dimensional recording and evaluation are required. Soft and thin-walled materials also require non-contact measurement.
Moreover, ever higher levels of surface quality are being achieved, greatly increasing the requirements placed on measuring systems in terms of resolution and measuring accuracy.
The MarSurf WS 1 satisfies all these requirements:
- Vertical resolution 0.1 nm (.004 µin)
- Three-dimensional measurement and evaluation in only a few seconds
- Compact measuring station configuration for the workshop and laboratory
- MarSurf XT 20 software
- Topographical evaluation software on the fully standardized and powerful MarWin software platform
