A temperature sensor is generally a small diameter cylinder (between 0.5 and 8 mm), varying in length (between 50 mm and several meters), rigid or deformable and immersed in the media to be measured : solid, liquid or gas. The choice depends on the following criteria: temperature range, precision, response time, media to be measured, overall dimensions, pressure, corrosion, attachment and connection.
The PTC technology (PT 100) is totally suited to industrial applications between -50°C and 500°C, in the absence of excessive vibration.
The thermocouple technology allows very short response times and high temperatures but with a lower precision (+/- 2°C on average).
The electrical connection of the sensors is made either using flexible cables or connectors, or on a terminal block inside a small standardised metal case referred to as the "probe head". When the cable is particularly long, it is advisable to use a 4/20 mA measurement converter installed in the probe head.
Some connection devices are ATEX certified in the "d", "e" or "ia" protection modes in a G (gas) or D (dusty) environment.

VITO temperature measurement systems for gauging temperature and volume
Anybody that wishes to determine the quantity of product present in bulk storage tanks has to take the product temperature into account. After all, temperature is a determining factor for the volume and hence the density of a product. ENRAF offers a comprehensive line of products for accurate temperature measurement. That line ranges from single spot temperature probes to the advanced VITO 16 element multiple thermosensor thermometer (MTT) for temperature and volume measurement.
Virtually the entire range is equipped with ENRAF’s well-known VITO interface, which guarantees faultless communication with level gauging systems based on radar or servo technology. The gauging systems can easily be provided with an additional functionality for water bottom measurement. In that way the number of instruments and components in and on the tank is kept to a minimum.
Temperature gauging systems by ENRAF stand out by their reliability and robust design. That assures you not only of high measurement accuracy but also of minimal maintenance cost. In addition to long-term stability, interchangeability and accuracy, elementary sensors are additionally characterized by small size footprints of only a few square millimeters. The temperature application range, however, is extremely high: from -196° Celsius to +1000° Celsius!
To increase the ease of use in mass production applications, Heraeus Sensor Technology has enhanced the capabilities of elementary sensors. DBS sensors, for example, are equipped with rectangular connecting wires that offer superior directional stability when compared to round wires. The DBS sensors, which are available in several different standard wire lengths, can eliminate the need for expensive extension leads.
Ideas developed by Heraeus Sensor Technology have simplified the need for further processing of SMD sensors. The FC-type SMD sensor, for example, which have no edge-metallization, can be die-bonded on PCBs instead of soldered, saving time and costs for automated manufacturing processes.

The sensing element which is generally small - 2 to 5mm diameter - is attached to a stainless steel mineral insulated cable that can be bent.
Tightness between sensing element and cable is achieved by laser welding or brazing. Connection to the readout instrument is made by a cable, a connecting head or a connector.

ComfortSense
Thermal comfort measurement according to EN 13182, ISO 7736 and ASHRAE standard 113
Dantec Dynamics’ ComfortSense system is designed for research and development of heating and air conditioning systems requiring multi-point measurements of air velocity and temperature. Draught measurements require omnidirectional sensors with a frequency response of at least 2 Hz, which is fulfilled by the present system.
ComfortSense elements
The ComfortSense system consists of a main frame with anemometer circuits for up to 16 probes. The omnidirectional probes measure both air velocity and temperature. Six frames can be connected so that up to 96 probes can be monitored simultaneously. The ComfortSense main frame has a built-in A/D converter with USB 2.0 interface.
Easy-to-use
It is easy for the user to setup a measurement sequence and make a measurement grid with selection of probes from a user library. The software delivers statistical results based on user-defined measurement cycles. The ruggedly designed probes and cables are perfectly suited for large test rooms.

The TS-520 is an uncalibrated NTC 10 kOhm leaded thermistor with a baked on phenolic coating for durability and long-term stability. These have solid nickel 30 AWG wires with Teflon insulation to provide insulation when assembled in a heat sink or plate with a lead length of 3 inches (76 mm). They are ideal for measuring the temperature of a laser diode or other component during testing. The precision temperature gauge TEMP12 is an electronic gauge for the temperature measurement.The device is based on a module system. A variety of ranges of application arises from it. These variants are different with respect to the port connected to a computer, the power supply unit, the number of available measuring channels and the design of casing.
The temperature gauge conceptionally was equipped for the highest precision and high long-term stability (at MTBF > 3000 hours). To be able to fulfi ll the high precision standards in the microelectronics production, specially aged NTC sensors will be built-in. WORM Flexible Temperature Sensor
Unlike straight temperature sensors, our WORM flexible RTD and thermocouple temperature sensors bend and slide right into a thermowell without having to remove the enclosure or assembly components.
|

RTD's are stable and have a fairly wide temperature range, but are not as rugged and inexpensive as thermocouples. Since they require the use of electric current to make measurements, RTD's are subject to inaccuracies from self-heating.
An RTD capitalizes on the fact that the electrical resistance of a material changes as its temperature changes. RTD's rely on the resistance change in a metal. The resistance will rise more or less linearly with temperature.
Traditionally, RTD's use a length of conductor (platinum, nickel iron or copper) wound around an insulator. Newer styles use a thin film of the conductor deposited on a ceramic substrate.
