Thermocouples can measure temperatures over wide ranges, inexpensively. They are very rugged, but they are not as accurate as RTDs and thermistors.
A thermocouple is basically two strips of wires of dissimilar metals. These metal wires are joined at one end and the voltage is measured at the other end. Changes in the temperature at the juncture induce a change in electromotive force (emf) at the other end. As the temperature goes up, this output emf of the thermocouple rises, though not necessarily linearly.

These industrial thermocouples are used in industrial processes where temperatures are very high.
Thermocouples are protected by one or two ceramic protectors. The choice of the tube material depends on the temperature to be measured and on the working conditions.
Connection to the regulating system is made through a connecting head, generally in aluminium, equiped with a ceramic terminal block or a transmitter.

Mineral insulated thermocouples are widely used for temperature measurement in many applications. To their essential characteristics -sensing element, insulation, protecting sheath material and connection- those thermocouples add unique properties such as bending possibilities (to suit any environment) and a wide range of dimensions (from miniaturization to great lengths). The bare ends termination offers flexible and direct connection possibilities.

ComfortSense
Thermal comfort measurement according to EN 13182, ISO 7736 and ASHRAE standard 113
Dantec Dynamics’ ComfortSense system is designed for research and development of heating and air conditioning systems requiring multi-point measurements of air velocity and temperature. Draught measurements require omnidirectional sensors with a frequency response of at least 2 Hz, which is fulfilled by the present system.
ComfortSense elements
The ComfortSense system consists of a main frame with anemometer circuits for up to 16 probes. The omnidirectional probes measure both air velocity and temperature. Six frames can be connected so that up to 96 probes can be monitored simultaneously. The ComfortSense main frame has a built-in A/D converter with USB 2.0 interface.
Easy-to-use
It is easy for the user to setup a measurement sequence and make a measurement grid with selection of probes from a user library. The software delivers statistical results based on user-defined measurement cycles. The ruggedly designed probes and cables are perfectly suited for large test rooms.

The Activa Sensor Array provides fl ow,
temperature and pressure signals in a compact
unit that requires only one hydraulic line break.
Each sensor transmits an output signal that is
easily integrated with PCs, PLCs, recorders or
panel displays. Signals can also be transmitted to
Flo-tech’s F6700/F6750 Series digital displays.

The bearings of industrial rotating equipment operate under arduous conditions - often for considerable periods of time. The most reliable indicator of bearing condition is the temperature of the metal beneath the shoe.
Recognition of rising temperature can provide a warning of the breakdown of the lubricating oil film; thus allowing machine shutdown and maintenance to take place - avoiding the probable catastrophic failure of the bearing and possible damage to its mounting. Conax Miniature Bearing Sensors provide a simple and cost-effective method to monitor bearing temperatures.
Features:
- For embedded applications in rotating machines
- RTDs - 100 ohm platinum, 0.00385 ohm/ohm/°C
- Thermocouples types J, K, T & E
- Single and duplex sensors
- Various styles and sizes
- Operating Temperature: to 250° F ( 120° C)
|

Install miniature sensors in or beneath the babbitt layer of bearing shoes. They monitor metal temperature — the most reliable indicator of bearing condition — to give early warning of oil film breakdown. Machines can then be shut down and the problem corrected before catastrophic failure occurs.
While no larger than many bare ceramic elements, these RTDs have metal cases and insulated leads to withstand rough handling and harsh environments. They’re easy to install in drilled holes for general purpose sensing.

Mainly based on the float switch design, these controllers help to monitor the liquid level (as combined units they monitor both liquid level and temperature) in oil reservoirs of fluid power and lubrication systems.
Attached to the tank top cover, they penetrate directly into the hydraulic fluid or the lubricant.
Each of the following series offers particular features and details culminating in the extreme density of functions offered by the Multiterminal.
Level switch Fluidcontrolterminal series
High number of functions reduces requirements for installation, space and cost
Adjustable level contacts
Connecting flange according to DIN 24 557 part 2
Directly attached electronic contact thermometers optional
The FC terminals offer the functions of tank breathing, level/temperature control, filling and topping up and oil sampling in a very compact design.

These RTDs cover the full temperature scale of the international standard EN60751. Precision sensing elements and nickel alloy sheaths are capable of measurements from -200 to 850°C (-328 to 1562°F) with typical ice point drift less than ±0.05°C.
600°C models have stainless steel sheaths for reduced cost. They use the same element structure as 850°C models for excellent accuracy and stability.
- Platinum elements to EN60751, Class A or B
- English and metric diameters

- Pressure rating 1500 psi (103 bar)
- Quick reaction to changing fluid and gas temperatures
- NPT (U.S.) or metric threads

Customer Requirement:
An RTD assembly was needed to monitor product temperature by piercing a sealed bottle within a sterilization chamber. When not monitoring product temperature, the assembly was also used to monitor internal chamber temperatures. Process temperatures reached 134°C.
Conax Design Solution:
Conax provided a 3-wire, 100 ohm platinum RTD assembly with a 4" long chisel point tip. The assembly consists of a sealed T3 termination, with 10 foot of treated silicone insulated cable that prevents moisture penetration, and a 0.125" diameter 316SST sheath. The assembly offers ±0.12% ohms accuracy @ 0°C. A Conax PG2 sealing gland seals the cable exiting the chamber. This product, one of the available configuration options of the Conax "Sterisensor," provides superior quality at a very competitive price.

The ifm temperature sensors are based on a PT 1000 which converts the measured quantity of temperature into a signal as a result of the change in resistance. A microprocessor controls the evaluation of the electrical signal. For the efector 600 the system temperature is directly indicated on the unit by an LED display.
The electronic circuitry is made in film technology, i.e. a flexible, temperature-stable and extremely resistant polyimide film is used as a carrier for the SMD components. In conjunction with a special potting compound this leads to a high shock and vibration resistance. The microprocessor and the display make the handling of the efector 600 very simple. By means of programming buttons the values for switch point, hysteresis, switching frequency and delay time can be set electronically without the system temperature being present. This enables the installation of the efector 600 in a few minutes. The values are saved in an EEPROM independently of the supply voltage.

Install these compact sensors anywhere for accurate point sensing and fast response. All Thermal-Tab modules use a thin-film RTD element. All Thermal-Ribbon models conform to EN60751 Class B tolerance when ordered with a PD platinum element.
- Fast response surface sensing in aerospace, medical and industrial devices
- Rugged lamination construction
- Polyimide, silicone rubber or Mylar™ insulation

Insert these thin, laminated RTDs in winding slots to detect high temperatures before insulation damage occurs. RTD temperature sensors continuously monitor conditions and provide the long term trend data that is necessary for making adjustments before unexpected alarms occur.
The sensing elements of stator RTDs extend through most of the body length to provide an average temperature reading. This eliminates the danger of a point-type sensor missing a localized hot spot. Six sensors are recommended for each motor, two per phase. Locate sensors near the hottest point of the windings for best performance.
Some models comply with European standards for electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres: ATEX Directive 94/9/EC EN 50 014: 1997, General requirements EN 50 019: 2000, Increased safety.
