Benefit from the many new advantages of measuring with light - without having to abandon the ruggedness and convenience of the classical strain gage.
HBM's optical strain gages are made from fibers of glass with a very small core diameter of no more than 4 to 9 micrometers. In comparison, the diameter of human hair ranges from 60 to 80 micrometers. The fiber core is surrounded by a cladding layer from purest glass with a diameter of 125 micrometers.
HBM patented optical strain gages utilize proven technology, and are easy to work with. There is no difference in the handling of optical or traditional (electrical) types of strain gages. You don't have to learn new skills: Bonding, covering, connecting, etc. are all identical. The patented design protects the fiber and makes configuring your test setup quick and convenient. Benefit from both optical sensor technology and the wide range of accessories for electrical strain gages.
Best of both worlds: HBM's measurement technology enables the simultaneous acquisition of data using both electrical and optical strain gages. The EasyOptics module in HBM's catmanAP software enables you to jointly acquire and analyze data from different types of sensors.

The increased use of fiber composites and the systematic optimization of components presuppose a precise knowledge of the load situation. In many applications, sensor integration is the only way to meet the demand for modern lightweight structures with regard to production control, load monitoring, damage analysis and control signal generation.
HBMs new LI66 strain gages are directly embedded in the structure during the fiber composite production process. This allows measurements at spots that are no longer accessible after production.
The most obvious feature of the LI66 strain gage is the two vertically attached contact pins, for contacting the strain gage embedded in the material. The measuring leads are only connected to the gold-plated pins after manufacture, outside the structure, which makes all the handling easier.
The LI66 strain gage is of a symmetrical design, with structural strain being applied equally to the measuring grid from both sides. Depending on the requirement, the user can decide whether the pins should be contacted inside the structure or on the outside. Thus, for example, with sandwich structures, the measuring leads or customized electronics can be introduced into the foam core.

Strain gauges consist of a very fine metallic foil etched in a grid pattern, which is bonded to a device and used to measure the strain, or amount of deformation of the device when weight or pressure is applied. The resulting electrical output is proportional to the strain.

Radar EM540: the suitable solution for tank barges, inland river and ocean going vessels
The 8" EM540 radar is especially designed to be integrated within a dedicated cargo monitoring system for inland river or ocean going vessels and tank barges.
The EM540 radar is based on the use of smart sensors including microprocessors performing signal processing. In addition to transmitting tank level, pressure, and temperature data to the central monitoring system, it offers such capabilities as self-diagnostics, self-monitoring and remote configuring.
The use of an intrinsically safe two-way digital signal transmission, between the radar and the central monitoring system, provides for an easy integration of the EM540 Radar into any type of control system.

Ultrasonic Liquid Leveller
The Link Instruments ULLC2001 Ultrasonic Level Comparator is one of the most advanced Liquid Levellers on the market. Both extremely easy to use and micro-pic controlled for greater precision in measurement. The transducer is placed against the cylinder body 120mm below the calculated liquid gas level, (normally mathematically calculated). While retaining the transducer at this point the Comparator's ultrasonic level is set to around two or three divisions / bars-, by use of the 0-10 Tune Control. This gives a reference level against which the signal at the gas level / air interface is compared.
By slowly sliding the transducer up the cylinder body, you will arrive at the gas level / air interface. At this point the signal will rise sharply and this is visible on the Comparator usually as all 16 divisions / bars- appear and is due to the enhanced propagation of the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW), across the liquid gas.
