The MSX-Box (Measurement Solution eXtended) is a realtime embedded system for networked control, regulation and acquisition of measurement data. Equipped with standard components like PCI backplane, PCI I/O board, CPU etc. the MSX-Box works without wearing parts like hard disk, drive, keyboard, mouse etc. It saves place and therefore can be integrated easily into small 19" racks or mounted on a rail.
In the MSX-Box also further PCI measurement boards that are available on the market can be integrated.
Via Ethernet (TCP/IP) or RS232 interfaces measurement data can be exchanged with other systems. An IP-address can be specified for the system. Furthermore, the MSX-Box supports server functions so that the system status or current processes of remote computers can be called.
Further interfaces are optionally available:
1 x RS232 or 1 x RS485 optically isolated as well as a field bus interface and 1 x profibus slave or rather 2 x interbus and up to 8 CAN interfaces.
The CPU (MIPS 64 bit processor), developed by Addi-Data, was chosen with the intention to grant a long-term availability of the PCI-I/O boards and herewith the durability of the applications.
