Water softener
Almeco
Water softeners are used to reduce the concentration of calcium and magnesium in water. Due to these high concentrations, there is a larger risk of incrustation sediment on an appliance's piping. This can damage the installation.
How does an industrial water softener work?
A water softener consists of a resin and brine tank. The resin tank is filled with artificial resin to which sodium ions are attached. An ion exchange takes place in case of a calcium and magnesium based fluid stream. The calcium and magnesium ions are bound to the resin and the sodium ions are separated from the water.
The resin gets saturated after a while and regeneration needs to take place: a brine solution flows from the salt tank through the resin tank, exchanges calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions and prepares the resin again for use.
