The casing (volute) is made of standard reinforced concrete, with a very robust design against corrosion and abrasion, irrespective of the nature of the cooling water.
On the other hand, good maintainability is assured by the simple "pull-out" design that allows critical parts such as the shaft and the impeller to be easily removed.
