General:
Power Factor (PF) correction for electrical systems with
non-linear loads or high levels of harmonic distortion is not
possible to be done by mean of capacitor banks without
protection against harmonic currents, it is necessary for
these cases to use capacitors provided with choke
reactors, called "de-tuned capacitor banks" or "de-tuned
harmonic filters".
De-tuned harmonic filters are easy to install and require
low maintenance, they supply compensation of reactive
energy to improve PF and lightly reduce the existing level
of 5th harmonic.
