solar, for aging tests
Emma (Equatorial Mount with Mirrors for Acceleration) and EMMAQUA (Equatorial Mount with Mirrors for Acceleration with Water) are Fresnel-reflecting solar concentration devices designed by DSET Laboratories, Inc. These were the most innovative devices for accelerated outdoor weathering when they emerged in the 1960s.
EMMAQUA is the most widely used outdoor accelerated weathering test method even today. It is also economical, time-tested and is always under further development for greater accuracy. The principle is "follow-the-sun" with a rack test apparatus, equipped with mirrors which are positioned at tangents in order to simulate a parabolic trough. The target board is carefully situated at the focal line of the mirrors, under a wind tunnel through which a deflector turns the ambient temperature cooling air across the specimens. The specimens are sprayed with de-ionized water at specified intervals, using a fan spray nozzle assembly, even at night using night time spray cycles.
