The positions and travel of the gripper rails are freely programmable. The closing and lifting drive units are accommodated on the outside of the press pedestals, designed solidly and enclosed leak-tight to protect them from dirt, scale and emulsion. The motions of the transfer rails may be programmed individually and allow for asymmetric rail positions and gripper travel.
