Rotary switch
Avago Technologies
Rotary switches are rotary pulse generators that replace the analog function of conventional resistive potentiometers. These rotary switches are often used as human-machine interface (HMI) devices for front panel instruments and audio-visual boards.
Avago's rotary switches utilize quadrature optical encoders, which are pure digital devices acting as analog potentiometers. These rotary switches appear similar to resistive or conventional potentiometers. However, the internal systems of these rotary switches are fully digitalized and using optical technology. Similar to conventional incremental encoders, Avago's rotary switches have two quadrature outputs (Channel A and Channel B). These rotary switches' internal system works and interface directly with typical quadrature decoders such as the HCTL-2022, HCTL-2032, or a microprocessor, and does not require special analog-to-digital conversion circuitry.
Avago's HRPG series of rotary switches utilize optical reflective technology and are available for cycle-per-revolution (CPR) range of 16CPR, 32CPR, and 120CPR. Alternatively, the HEDS-5700 Series of rotary switches utilize optical transmissive technology and is available for various CPR range of 96CPR to 512CPR. Multiple configuration options are available, which include smooth or detented turning, multiple mounting bracket, and different shaft configurations. These devices are available in 2-channel quadrature output with optional index pulse. They are alos available with or without static drag for manual or mechanized operation.
