Rubber washer-type seals can be used for a wider range of applications than the traditional OR, as they give a much more ample seal surface. Also they work properly both under minimum and considerable pressure and compression levels.
The elasticity of the rubber allows the seal to be maintained even when the surfaces in contact with the washer move, provided the movements in the flanges or pipes remain within the elastic limits of the rubber used to manufacture the seal, and that the frequency of movements is not so high as to overheat the seal due to hysteresis.
