These insert bits offer significant advantages over standard bits especially when fastening solid metal and sheet metal. When the underside of a screw head comes into contact with the flat non-elastic surface of metal the insert bit experiences a sharp peak in torque load. The torsion bit is designed to dissipate this peak torque avoiding permanent distortion or deformation of the bit point. Additionally this also significantly reduces the chance of the bit slipping out of the screw head reducing wear and potential damage to the work piece. These advantages also apply when fastening into layers of materials with differing degrees of hardness, where alternating loads apply additional stresses to insert bits.
