Decoupling element for motor vehicle exhaust system BURGMANN INDUSTRIES
Decoupling elements provide a flexible, gas-tight connection between exhaust gas system and engine. They are in most cases fitted in the down pipe area of the exhaust gas system. Their purpose is to compensate axial, lateral and angular relative movements between engine and exhaust gas system that occur in particular with transverse mounted engines, and to thus reduce mechanical stressing of the exhaust gas system.
The vibrations and oscillations transmitted from the engine into the exhaust gas system stress the latter to a significant extent, and their occurrence there is also undesirable for acoustic reasons. The transmission of these vibrations and oscillations can be controlled by using decoupling elements. This also reduces mechanical stress, the level of noise transmitted from the engine into the passenger compartment and by the exhaust gas system itself.
