It is not a sufficient description of the feed rate to state just the stock removed per pass (downfeed). The work speed, table speed, cross feed and/or the size of the surface ground should all be stated to allow the calculation of cubic inches of material removed per minute or per hour.

Conveniently, the specific feed rates are stated as cubic inches per hour of contact time, per inch of the width of the wheel face.
