One of the most versatile nonlinear optical crystal materials available.
Features :
- High optical homogeneity (dn ~ 10-6)
- Excellent resistance to thermal fracture

- Broad optical transparency range (190 to 3500 nm)
- Large nonlinear coefficients (deff = 1.94 pm/V for Type I SHG of 1064 nm)
- Large birefringence (no-ne = 0.115 @ 1064 nm)
- High laser damage threshold (5 GW/cm2 @ 1064 nm with 10 ns pulses)
Beta Barium Borate ( b-BaB2O4 ), or BBO, is one of the most versatile nonlinear optical crystal materials available. BBO is most commonly used for second-or higher-order harmonic generation of Nd:YAG, Ti:Sapphire, argon ion and alexandrite lasers.
