When this semiconductor is alloyed with antimony or selenium it becomes an efficient thermoelectric material for refrigeration or portable power generation.
For example, if you take two Bi2Te3 pellets of different conductivity types (n and p), join them sequentially by metal conductors and place this "package" between two thermally conductive ceramic plates, you get a device called Thermoelectric Cooling Module (TCM).
