  • optical isolator CVI Melles Griot
This alternative to a Faraday isolator achieves passive isolation of linearly polarized light by combining a cube polarizer and a 1/4-waveplate. Light that is p-polarized is transmitted through the assembly, while any stray back reflections or return beams become s-polarized and are reflected away. Return beams can have a destabilizing effect on laser source oscillation and operation of optical fiber amplifiers, thus resulting in poor performance and optical feedback.

The OIO high energy optical isolator utilizes a multiple order waveplate (QWPM) and an optically contacted cube beamsplitter (PBSO), while the standard OI isolator uses a cemented beamsplitter cube (PBS).
