Pyrgeometer
LP PIRG 01
Delta Ohm
Radiant energy is absoibed /radiated from the surface ol the blackened thermo
pile, creating a temperature difference between the centre ol the thermopile (hot
limdion) and the body of pyigeometei (coH junction). The temperature differ-
ence between hot and cold junction is converted into Potential Difference thanks
to the Seebeck effect.
If the pyrgeorneter temperature is higher than the radian! temperature of the
portion of sky framed by the pyrgeorneter. the thermopile will irradiate energy
and the output signal wnll be negative (typical situation ol clear sky) vice versa rl
the pyrgeorneter temperature is lower titan that portion of sky framed, the signal
will be positive (typical situation ol cloudy sky).
