Eastern Instruments presents the High Beta® Engineered (HBE) flow conditioner for combustion air. In modern power plant environments, the latest trend is to increase efficiency. This leads to a high demand for effective boiler trim controls. And these trim controls need precise measurement of combustion air flow. In case the air flow measurement is not repeatable, precise, or an accurate illustration of the mass flow, it can lead to destabilization of the airflow control loop. For precise air flow measurements, the flow should be free of any turbulent, reverse, or cyclonic flow patterns. Also the flow should have uniform profiling throughout the duct at the measurement position. The HBE can profile even the most turbulent flows with little or no upstream or downstream straight duct runs required. The HBE is perfectly suited for the irregular duct work often found in power plants and it often utilized to measure primary, secondary or overfired air in a variety of coal burning power plants.
