The HICON floater furnace has dramatically improved upon the performance and quality of conventional continuous furnaces for heat treating cold-rolled aluminum strip.
With the assistance of a newly-developed jet nozzle system, both the rate of thermal transfer and the load capacity could be increased, achieving a considerable increase in throughput, especially with thick strips.
Floater furnace facilities have been built to process strip with a thickness between 0.3 and 6.35 mm, and a width up to 2,300 mm. Heating-up times of 1 minute per mm have been achieved at setpoint temperatures of 540 C and
a t of +0 -3C. Tempering the strips in a combined cooler/quench connected to the furnace is a completely new idea.
