Coaxial heat exchanger
Ehrfeld
When compared with counter-current flow plate heat exchangers, the coaxial heat exchanger has not only a clearly smaller effective heat transfer area but also a clearly smaller heat transfer coefficient. Despite this, the lower pressure drop, the reduced susceptibility to blockage and, in particular, the fact that it can be completely dismantled for maintenance purposes, makes it an attractive heat exchanger module for many purposes. For example, such modules, with their characteristic channel width of 0.3 mm, are already in successful use for process fluids that contain high particle loads or are of high viscosity. Whenever sufficient temperature control cannot be given by a single coaxial heat exchanger, then the low pressure drop in this type of module allows several of them to be connected in series without difficulty.
