Cryogenic reactor

  • cryogenic reactor Ehrfeld
The major reason for the development of the CryoReactor was to enable organometallic reactions to be carried out at low temperatures and within small dimensions. The main prerequisites were therefore the cooling of the reactants, mixing at low temperatures and the taking place of the reaction in a cooled tarrying structure with a defined residence time. The CryoReactor fulfills these requirements. It is complete with two capillary heat exchangers, a multilamination micromixer (of the same construction as slit plate mixer LH 2) and a reaction capillary in an insulated Dewar steel container through which the temperature controlling medium flows. The CryoReactor so contains several functions and be seen as an integrated system which can be simply combined with other modules of the Modular Microreaction System.

The module can be operated using the cooling circuit of an external cryostat, which can make temperatures down to -100 °C possible.

Reactions can be carried out under elevated temperatures with a modified module of this type.

Two CryoReactors can be connected in series to enable a low temperature reaction to be carried out at one temperature and, for example, a quench step to be carried out at a different temperature. The CryoReactor is complete with a temperature sensor which contacts the process media in the mixing zone.
