Split roller bearing for harsh environment for continuous casters

The centre bearing of the drive rollers in continuous casting machines can be equipped with split bearing units from Eich. Split cylindrical roller bearings run inside a water-cooled housing. Compared with the normal versions, the split inner race of the bearing is slightly broader so that the race halves can be preloaded.

With the design adapted to the actual load, the working load that affects only the lower section of the housing is absorbed by a hardened outer ring half. This solution has the added advantage that the space thus gained can be used for cooling in the bearing cover. The inlet and outlet for the cooling water are at the foot of the housing. Practice has shown that this ensures adequate cooling so that the bearings do not overheat and they can be lubricated with normal roller bearing grease.
