A gantry robot consists of one or more manipulators mounted onto an overhead structure that allow movement across a horizontal plane. They are also called "Cartesian" or "linear" robots and are usually large systems that perform pick and place applications. This kind of systems provide the advantage of large work areas and better positioning accuracy.
