PIOMA LDS 80 underground diesel locomotive

This locomotive moves on railway tracks of 900 mm spacing. It is characterised by a multi-body structure. The engine compartment and two driver's cabs, mounted on two torsional motor bogies as its basic subassemblies. Thanks to this structure, the locomotive can haul huge sets without the risk of leaving the tracks on bends and turnouts.

The basic constructional features of PIOMA LDS 80 underground diesel locomotive are:
- capable of hauling sets of cars of a total mass of up to 150 t,
- suspension system assuring uniform locomotive weight distribution between all wheels, thus improving the locomotive's braking efficiency and making it possible to use the full pulling force on start-up,
- hydraulic drive and independent gears on both sides of the track eliminating wheel skidding on bends and thus considerably reducing resistance to motion,
- driving system ensuring an even load distribution between all wheels,
- reliable driving unit; as with the PIOMA CS 80, a suspended monorail is applied, thus ensuring unification of spare parts and facilitating periodic.
- inspections and repairs of diesel machines,
- driver's cabs, equipped with indicators and machine control devices, which are ergonomic and secure,
- control system and a hydrostatic drive to make it possible to accelerate and reduce the speed of the transport unit smoothly, while a single control lever makes operation easier,
- possible to use the locomotive within smaller road heading areas because the machine only protrudes slightly beyond the tracks on bends.
