Instead of a stacker crane, a standard industrial robot transfers pallets or zero-point fixtures within the system. This solution combines the flexibility of an FMS with that of a robot:

It is possible to manufacture individual parts (batch size one), because the part setup travels with the zero-point fixture or pallet.

Automatic buffering in system storage between any two manufacturing steps.

A standard, comprehensive Fastems FMS control system can be used.

An industrial robot can access devices that are not accessible by a stacker crane.

An industrial robot enables more efficient work cycles: for example, a robot can attach multiple zero-point fixtures to one stationary pallet that resides inside a machine tool.

An industrial robot can also perform manufacturing tasks as a part of its work cycle.
