Force Control has been manufacturing oil shear brakes for 40 years, developing expertise in many areas. Our products can be found around the world on a variety of industrial applications including, coal, steel, fiberglass, automotive, lumber, packaging, food processing, and many more. The reliability of the oil shear technology makes these products ideal for the wind energy applications. Some of the applications most suited for the Force Control oil shear brakes include pitch drives, nacelle yaw drives, and yaw control.

electric brakeThe MagnaShear™ electrically released motor brakes are perfect for vector or servo motors. The oil shear technology provides extremely long service life, and because the wear is minimal over millions of cycles, there is never any adjustment required - ever. The low inertia multiple disc stack helps reduce response, and contributes less load to the drive. The brake is sealed from any dust, dirt, or moisture, and can have internal heater if required. Also because there is very little wear over the life of the brake, the gap when released can be minimal, and the unique reduced voltage PWM circuit meaning response time is less than many competitive brakes. This can be critical when providing the exact pitch position.

Another product ideally suited for the wind turbine application is the Posistop™ brake. These come in many sizes and styles including motor brakes, foot mounted, and shaft mounted. Torque ranges from 6 Ft. Lbs. (8Nm) to 450 Ft. Lbs.(610Nm) in the motor brake series, and up to 1,300 Ft. Lbs. (1763Nm) in the foot mounted series. The Positorq™ series provides maximum static torque up to 200,000 Ft. Lbs. (271,164 Nm).
