The SpeedTrap is suitable for use with a wide range of solvents, from volatile organic solvents through to water and some of the higher boiling point solvents. Whilst it is designed to compliment the miVac series of concentrators it can also be used with other manufacturers concentrators, provided that the solvents concentrated are compatible.
Unlike traditional cold traps, the miVac SpeedTrap has the coolant pumped through the vapour flow from the concentrator. The vapours condense directly on the coiled pipes containing the refridgerated coolant, and then drop down into the insulated collecting jar below. Even when concentrating water, only an ice shell forms on the coils, the majority of the water collects as a liquid in the jar. Every hour, the system automatically switches into defrost mode - without interrupting concentration - and defrosts the coils for one minute to ensure that a large quantity of ice does not build up on the coils.
