UL 1449 relates to testing of Transient Voltage Surge Suppresors (TVSS).
TVSS devices have applications in the home, office and industrial plants. Usually mounted on the load side, their function is to protect electrical equipment from lightning surge effects induced onto power lines.
UL 1449 is a batch test performed on production samples connected across the mains power supply.
