The split solar water heating system has solar collectors (heat pipe or U pipe) on the roof and water storage tanks inside the basement or attic, and transfers heat energy from the solar collectors into the tank via pumped circulation of the working fluid. The split system is widely used in all climates, and particularly in cold regions without risk of freezing.
