Anybus Communicator® is a family of certified and proven gateways, connecting automation devices via their serial interface to all major fieldbusses. The Communicator enables industrial devices without a network interface to connect to all major standard fieldbusses including Profibus, DeviceNet, CANopen, ControlNet, CC-Link, Modbus-RTU, Modbus-Plus, Interbus and FIPIO.

The Communicator performs an intelligent conversion between the serial protocol of the automation device and the chosen fieldbus network.

The Anybus Communicator supports RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 serial electrical signals without any change in hardware. This allows for connectivity to a broad range of serial devices. Typical serial applications include variable frequency drives, sensors, actuators, human machine interfaces, barcode readers, RFID readers and industrial scales among others. It is much more than just a standard tunneling gateway and provides full flexibility and extended connectivity options.

The Anybus Communicator is configured using a very simple Windows%u2122 based software package that requires that the user simply fill in the blanks to match the protocol of the serial device it is connected to. Applications that require conversions from serial Modbus to fieldbus protocols are even easier as a built-in software wizard guides the user through each step of the configuration process.
