The Hunger RDA rotary seal can be used as a sealing
element for rotating machine parts. It is mainly used in
rotary feed units for separation of oil or other fluids at
different pressures and can be subjected to pressure
on both sides. Since the seal requires only a small
installation space, the external dimensions of rotary
feed units can be kept to a minimum.
The RDA is suitable for relatively high pressures with
low peripheral speeds. The seal consists of 4 parts,
an elastic element held by L-rings on which the sealing
thrust ring lies. The L-rings on both sides protect the
entire seal against movement in the seal groove.
With working pressures above 300 bar and a surface
sliding speed above 0.1 m/second, the working temperature
must not exceed 70°C (158°F).
Due to its greater static contact surface, the RDI seal
is preferred to the RDA. Depending on the specifications
and operating conditions it is recommended to
have the running surface hardened to approx. 56 HRC
or hard chromium plated.
